Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted on here, but I've been having a problem with my steering feeling quite stiffer than usual and I need some assistance, please.

Quick and to the point, I had my car serviced at EZ Lube a couple of months ago (I know.. ) but I was really ill at the time from a medical condition and honestly, just wanted to get an oil change asap, but thought what the heck, i'll have them do the power steering svc, too. Well, it turns out they used "standard power steering fluid".. I did not know then that I had to use Dexron III trans fluid =/ (I just learned of this in the past few days as I was researching related problems online).

So, now, a couple months later, my steering is beginning to be stiff as hell.

Question:
What the heck should I do? Get a power steering flush, obviously, right? Is it possible I did any damage to my power steering pump from having it like this for so long? I just noticed the stiffness maybe within the past month and I feel that it's definitely not easy to turn my steering wheel anymore. =/

Same think happened to me minus the quickie lube. Its was my own temporary stupidity who forgot it too auto tranny fluid lol. Got a flush got better but not good enough so just got a new pump.

Thanks man. Do you know how much the pumps go for? I heard about $130? Sounds accurate? Thanks again.

Stop flipping out it is just a car and you will be fine. Stop letting others work on your car and do it your self. Pickup 2 bottles of Mobil 1 ATF fluid and a turkey baster and flush out 2 qts of power steering fluid for 97% new fluid. I would do a full swap of fluid and drive it around 5 miles and then come back and redo the process till you run out of new fluid.

A friend of mine is a master tech for Infiniti and he recommends using actual power steering fluid instead of tranny fluid. His point was that PS fluid contains lubricants and other wear additives specific to the PS system that tranny fluid doesn't and is better for the operation and longevity of the system.

Just a thought...........

I flushed my power steering fluid and im useing mobil one ATF in it now.

Yeah, this I could do. A lot of the maintenance stuff I can't do, because I'm physically disabled, so some things are more difficult than others for me, haha. But, thanks for the info and the links. I appreciate it.

Did the power steering fluid swap work? I have the same issues with my G. I swapped the fluid with fresh, but have not noticed anything...

I went through this problem on a m3 and i just flushed out the fluid and replaced it a couple of times and was all good
