@cleric670 Happy to answer your Qs:

State: PA
Primary deficiency:

-Front steering knuckle assembly was found cracked; considering this is the original part after 19 years and 200k+ miles, I suppose wear and tear finally caught up?

Secondary deficiency:
-Front brakes and rotors

Hello,
]My 2003 Sedan manual 6 speed just died on the way home right at 200K. They repair shop said the timing system went out. I was at a red light idling and it just died. When it turns over it just spins like just the starter is turning. They told me it would be cheaper to replace the motor. What would you guys do? Thanks in advanced.

If it were me, I would LS swap at this point.

If the rest of the car is rust free and in good shape just replace the motor. Plenty around for reasonable prices. How is the clutch and gearbox?

While the engine is out may as well replace the clutch at least.

I will do some research on that as well. I know there are plenty of posts on that subject. Guess they have bolt on kits available.

Yes it's rust free, been mostly garage kept. I found a few motors for around $2K with under 80K miles that sound promising. Clutch was still very strong but I will replace while the engine is out. Should I even have them look at the current motor for repairs. They told me it would cost more than to replace it.
Thanks for you help!

Well you just answered your own question.

At $2K for a motor with 80K is a good deal. Replacement will be more straight forward than a complete timing chain, which may also be an engine out service.

timing only requires you to remove the rad really. Ideally the whole front end comes off for easy access though of course.

it will probably be $1-2k to have a shop redo your timing with parts these days though.

if these magical 80k mile engines are the JDM depot ones … YMMV … they don’t actually verify mileage from overseas. We are just trusting them. That said - it’s a lot cheaper and faster than a total rebuild. If it’s just stock power I’d swap and move forward. Any boost - Total rebuild.
