Re: Changing Oil

from what i have been hearing people seem to like mobil 1. I tihnk it is a pritty good oil but i dont reallly know to much about it. I am doing what ever the dealer tells me to do. I am getting them for free so they can do what ever the hell they want at the dealer. But mobil sounds like your best bet

Re: Changing Oil

Mobil 1 is a great synthetic oil. However, since the owner's manual states that Infiniti reccomends mineral based oils, I am sticking with my tried and true Pennzoil.

Re: Changing Oil

i use regular castrol GTX 10w-30. the manual says to use petroleum based oils only. plus sythetic is overrated and overpriced especially if you are going to be changing your oil every 3k miles. actually i am breaking the rules just a bit the manual says use 5w-30!

Re: Changing Oil

In the summer you'll be fine with the 10W-30, and as long as it doesn't get below 20 degrees often in the winter where you live, it should be ok.

Re: Changing Oil

Bigel,

I had the service department put Mobil 1 in my car during its first service and they didn't make a comment on this....will synthetic hurt my engine since the owner's manual says mineral based oils? Damaging an engine this expensive would not be a good thing...

Penzoil is a piece of [censored] and so is castrol. Mobil is ok but Valvoline will always be number one... Thats right I said it.

Quick Robin... TO THE BATMOBILE.

Re: Changing Oil

Been a lot of discussion regarding Nissan recommendations. I have the Dec 02 6MT Coupe manual which says "mineral based oils recommended". Went to my 96 Maxima (5 spd) which has 130K miles on Mobil 1 - that manual says "mineral based or synthetic oils may be used... Do not mix mineral based and synthetic type oils in the engine at the same time"

I have converted the rear end and the trans to Red Line and will go to Mobil 1 after 7500 - 10000 miles - making sure rings are seated.
