Anyone send thiers in yet for the POP upgrade...they said mine would be back in my hands next week. 50 bucks for the upgrade sure is cheaper than buying a new one everytime. Keep buying folks that way they will be around competing for a while and I can get cheap upgrades. Would have saved me 375 beans if it had POP detection in it last year in NC.

I think I’ll give Escort or V1 a shot, will do a research first; however, do you guys know if they offer refund? Just curious.

I am sorry. I did not intend to sound like I was speaking down to you. It sounded like you were inexperianced and looking for advice.
So to continue with the post;
Whichever one you chooe, they are both considered to be the best. I think it comes down to personal preferance, and money.

Can someone tell me where I can have it installed here or where I can find a DIY on this forum or somewhere else?

Where was this? Was it posted on this forum cuz I did do a search for it in the DIY section. I wish it had letter instructions. I suppose installation for the V1 is same thing? Thats too hard for me to do. Maybe not too hard, but I dont want to risk it. I rather pay someone to do it. What type of shop do these installations?

Considering the inherent problems with POP radar (http://www.valentine1.com/pop/whatispop.asp), I would've challenged the ticket. That said, has anyone here challenged a "POP-radar" ticket?

No offence taken…

I guess, my biggest thing was that I indeed didn’t know how it works, bow with this in mind, I’ll be purchasing one, and just like somebody said, I will get both and just return one and keep the one I like

this would be funny if there would be a detector detector detector to detect that cop is trying to detect if you’ve got a jammer . (what the heck did i just say?) I’ve read somewhere some time ago that you can buy a remote to manipulate traffic lights, and since it was a new invention it is not illegal yet heh

Oh, one more thing, all of you (most of you) were mentioning “instant on” – what is it?

i've got a v1 and love it. wouldn't trade it for anything, sending it off to get the pop upgrade in a few weeks

instant on means that the radar gun is not on until the cop see's you and wants to get a reading, think of it like well a gun. when he hits the trigger its on, other wise its off and you don't know its there.

i think every question you could have would be answered here
http://valentine1.com/lab/Previously.asp
and here
http://valentine1.com/lab/LabReports.asp

very in depth answers to alot of questions.

Well I did challenge it and rather than drive down there I paid an attorney $375. The cop may have got a lock but I don't know as I never had to go to court. I don't think the attorney really did either..it just went away. For 85+ in a 55 on RT 1 in Vance county + an attached wreckless (also easy to fight as they can't say you were wreckless just because you were speeding) it was a no brainer to hire someone to handle it.

I don't know about the distance, but my windows are 20% tint, and it was a cloudy day. He never got along side me, so I don't think he got a visual.

I've gotten 2 speeding tickets with my Bel 980 since I got it 2.5 years ago. Both occured when I was the only car on the road, the cops can turn their radar guns on immediately which makes the detector useless. Since it gives you no time to slow down there is a good chance you will be pulled over. As for highway driving, if there are other cars on the road and the cop is not parked perpendicular to the road they work very well. You will always have plenty of false alarms with any detector.

That said, I think the V1 gives you the best SA since it's the only radar LOCATOR on the market. Still, the V1 is only a tool to acquire SA. You must be aware of how radar works and cop tactics, techniques, and procedures to mitigate risk of being caught speeding. For example, cops are increasingly using pacing method vice detector to pick up speeders. If you see someone come up on you quickly, slow down before they have a chance to tag along and pace you. In addition, to shoot lidar (laser radar), a cop must be stationary. That said, overpasses/on-ramps looking at long straight-aways lend themselves well to lidar. Slow down in these areas and ensure you're not a lone duck. Bottom line, be alert, smart, and have SA (read get a V1) to reduce your risk of being pulled over.
Mizzou, I wasn't talking about you. I think it was maz that first mentioned the stealth radar. I was commenting on what I thought he was talking about. Sorry I didn't specify.

I have an Escort that's served me well for a few years. I find that the extra length gets in the way if you mount it too high and it interferes with the visor. The "expert mode" of the display when active is too small to read quickly to be of much use. These are some of the reasons that I'm considering the Valentine.

My first Escort was one of the original ones that Mike Valentine helped develop (the first Super-heterodyne detectors that every one copied). I loved that thing until it got totalled in an accident!

And the moon has to be full right under mars, and the stars must to be lined up perfectly along with the cop – parallel to the road, in that case you might get lucky and not get pulled over, but most importantly you only can speed 0.9mi over the limit, otherwise…well, you’re out of luck… wait for the next solar eclipse.
