I thought that was the whole point of that thing, to hide you from the radar if it’s far away or at least worn you if you’re up to close.

Those that I had were cheap and crappy. Well, crappy because they didn’t work. Have you heard about those “stealth” radar detectors, the supposedly hide you from the laser or any other wave-oriented radars? Is that a myth or true stories?

Does V1 or Escort offers money back for any reason? I do not doubt your experience with radars, I only asking this because I burned my self on several occasions while using anti-radar.

And just like previous comment from xswl0931, if I can’t really depend on it, why spend $300+?! To me it sounds like a consultant job – consultants tell people what they already know and get paid big $$$ for doing that….well can’t complaint, that’s how I make money …

Thanks G-eers
trust me the $300 is worth it.. friend has a Escort and i LOVE watching that thing when it goes off. the new one is great you should check it out http://www.escortradar.com/ i believe best buy carries them for $300 (not sure).

okey lets say a cop has his gun on.. there are 2 main types of radar cops use and just about any radar detector made in the past year can pick both up.. lets say .5mile away.. but if your going like 110 you have to think to yourself.. how long it'll take you to pass .5mile.. couple of seconds? so pretty mcuh your fuked lol.. lasers are picked up when a cop uses it.. lets say a car haead of you is shot with a laser.. you detector will pick that up.. also some colors reflect the laser better then others lol

so to make your detector work for you
1. relize its limits
2. go findout what types of detector your area uses

and what your talking about is a radar jammer, which is illegal in pretty much ever state i can think of lol.. thats when your doing 70 but the cop will see it as 60

^all the information above.. ehh iono where it came from lol

search www.google.com for (radar detector review, escort review, v1 review, escort v1 result) stuff lke that.. alot of info

most of the models above 250-300 ish like V1, ESCORT, PASSPORT are supposed to be the best.

radar detectors detect cops using radar well, and safeways and albertsons and QFCs extremely well,

i have the newest PASSport x50 and it works well, it hasnt "save" me yet but it also gives me ALOT of falses but now i know where those places are and so i can use the detector without being paranoid all the time because safeway is making it beep...

all in all if you can afford a G35 a radar detector wont kill you so its worth having the ability to know when cops are scanning. Either way it cant be worse than not having one, unless having one make you speed thinking ur invisible. But i feeel neked in a car without one hehe so ill continue to have one in my cars..

Between the flames is light I tried to bring to the debate. For those seriously contemplating purchasing an escort or v1, I encourage you to read the entire thread and apply some critical thinking.

From what I have read, there is no way to hide your vehicle from radar or lasar.
You have to accept the reality of driving fast.
If you are alone on the highway, with no one visably in front of you, and the cop has instant on, or God forbid lasar, he has got you.
That is the way it is. Your dector can not give you enough time to hear and react before he has your number.
Can't be done.
You need to learn how and where to drive fast.
Watch traffic in front of you. Most times you are not alone. Watch for brake lights ahead of you, a dead give away.
Take some time to get used to how your detector works, get used to its reactions.
There is no fool proof answer, if you drive fast all the time, the odds are you will get caught .
How often do you risk it, is your choice.
I have come to expect a ticket once every three years, where I drive.
That has been my average.
It is the price you pay.
That said.
, You get what you pay for, pay for what you get.
Do not risk your license(or give you insurance company any more money) by using a cheep detector.
You will save your license, and you wallet in the long run, with an Escort or V-1.
IMO.

The thing is, I never get tickets in my hometown, cause I do follow “signs” – taillights and do know how to “speed correctly”. All tickets that I have are from when I’m on the road trip.

I think I’ll give Escort or V1 a shot, will do a research first; however, do you guys know if they offer refund? Just curious.

I believe both of them have a 30-day trial period if you order direct. Might as well get both and see which one you like.

They both offer the 30-day trial. Again, read related thread for a good start on your research.

a radar would be kept on at all times.. not really a instant on/off tool

and some areas uses airplanes..

maz - you cannot get hidden unless you mean radar Jammer. Jammers will make Cop's detectors unable to read your speed. Those are illegal though in most places.

These detectors (V1 and Escort are best, V1 big but detects front and back while Escort is smaller better looking, but detects front only) work by catching signals that bounce off other cars. By this I mean that if you are the only car and the cop shoots the laser right at you, then you wont have enought time to stop speeding. If you are on a deserted road, then its safer to not speed. If you, however, are driving where plenty other cars are, you can catch the signal. You can never be 100% sure you wont get caught, but these detectors do help A LOT if you are wise and not speed on deserted roads and curbs.

Another thing, some companies claim they will pay for your tickets if you get caught, the sad truth is that in small fine print, they say that they will pay ONLY if you are 10 miles per hour over the speed limit. If you are doing 80 on a 60 then you are on your own. They just use that to catch people.

I forgot to ask another thing. Can someone take pictures of their setup? I dont use a radar detector just for the reason that I think (judging by how it looks on my friend's G) it looks ugly on the interior. There are cables everywhere and when those cables move, they scratch your dashboard and the stereo's window thing.

I really would like to get a Valentine V1 but I just think it is too big. Escort's new with the blue light looks great, however, same story with the cables on the dashboard. I read that wireless ones dont work that well and that u need to replace batteries all the time. Can anyone comment on this? Is there any way to do a nice looking setup? If so, where can I have this done? Where can I have a radar detector be installed in a clean way? Thank you in advanced to those who can help =)
