At least you didn't have what i had when i removed mine.....it was obvious that the previous owner had also tried to remove the badges but then realized that they had defects around the lettering too and painted back over the glue instead of removing it and cleaning it up...
It's also possible that halo of oxidation is just wax builtup that needs to buffed off.
I've seen a lot of our cars debadged and never anything like this from adhesive. Is it possible the previous owner or dealership put the letters back on with glue? I've seen one other members car where the letters were glued on and needed to be repainted....Gary
Yea I'm not sure what the heck happened. But new paint will look fresh.
I have debaged two trunks and I never used a heat gun or fishing line.
Step 1 get goo gone and let every letter soak for about 20-30 minutes
Step 2 get dental floss since it is wax coated and take off letters
Step 3 very carefully rub glue with goo gone till all residue is gone will take about an hour to do the whole trunk.
