Dealer over priced brakes

Ok, so i think its time to change my brakes since 2 days ago i started hearing a screaching rubbing sound from the front right tire when i brake, im hoping i dont have to replace the rotars or calipers( Brembos on the 04 6mt coupe) or any thing. So i call the dealer today to get prices. either this is obsurd or the lady can't read. She told me it would be 600 alone to just change the break pads in the front and 600 for the back. thats 1200 for brake pads ONLY all around. I mean i know our cars are expensive to fix and maintain but that does not sound right at all to me. Can anyone provide me with better option/brands or prices i can find as soon as possible? for that price i believe i can get everything done all around lol. Thanks in advance

I have an 06 6MT so no brembos, but I paid 400 for the more expensive premium rotors, 120 for the pads, and 200 for the install. so 720 total. All ordered online and installed at a local mechanic.

Unless you're just a horrible driver that trashes his car, there's no need whatsover to replace the rotors at that stage. I've had my front pads replaced once and the rears twice and I'm at 80k at the time. Even in this case sometimes mechanics go overboard when they can.

Depending on what quality of pads you're looking for you can get pads as cheap as $30-$50/set or get some good quality OE equivalent or performance pads for around $70-$140/set depending on like i said what you're wanting.

Unless you've ran your pads down into the rotors and they're grooved, there is no need to replace them. Take them to any shop or even Oreilly's I know will turn them for $10/each. You don't replace your calipers unless it's failed or seized or something else mechanically is wrong.

Check out summitracing.com, I've always ordered from them in the past and have never had any problems. You get free shipping on mostly everything and they are decent prices, you can find cheaper but I like the confidence in buying from them. I recently just got some Hawks pads from them for my 05 coupe (non-brembo) and paid under $200 and love the bite I get from my pads.

Don't let the dealer rape you.

At what stage? I didn't say anything besides what I paid and my model year.

That's kinda weird that you've had to replace your rears twice already and the fronts only once. Do you do brake-stands often?

In typical driving, you will always wear out the front brakes much quicker than the rears due to the fact that the car's weight shifts forward when you brake. The only time this wouldn't hold true is if you have a problem with your braking system which is causing your rear brakes to either stick, or have too much brake pressure relative to the fronts, or if your front brakes aren't working right and causing the rears to overwork (in which case you would notice a significant reduction in braking ability of your car across the board in all situations).

Partyman, that's incorrect! With our Infinities and many new cars, the backs wear out long before the fronts. I questioned this myself judging from what I've experienced for years with RWD, in the past 10 years the rear pad wear the most....strange I know!
Atonal, hearing that sound you better do something quick! It may be to late to order pads from our MARKETPLACE because you need it fixed now. Find a independent brake/alignment shop in your area and have them install new pads. Stay away from the Stealership unless it's for warranty work!

^^ I think it has to do with the side that the power goes to. RWD cars wear the rear pads more and the FWD cars wear the fronts more. I have both at home and the front pads on my FWD car are bigger than the rear ones. On my Mustangs the rears were bigger than the fronts, I'm guessing they might be the same on this car, haven't had to change them yet though.

In all RWD Infiniti's rear brake pads are smaller than front and Yes rear w drive also has to do with rears wearing faster than fronts..... I have owned many Infiniti's and have 5 of them even now and it's true rears wear faster than fronts but $1200 for a break job even at dealer is excessive unless new rotors, calipers, pad the whole nine yard needs replacement.

In Canada (where we get charged up the waazoo), but that seems excessive for simply new pads.

I recently had 4 new rotors and new brake pads done at the stealership and was charged $1050 all in.

Expensive, sure, but brakes are the last place I'd skimp on.
