Extended Warranty - Buy or No???

How many of you G35 Coupe 6MT owners bought an Infiniti extended warranty? If yes, which one did you get and how much did you pay? OR, did you buy a third party extended warranty? Thanks in advance.

I didn't and neither did my friend. They want $3,000 for it. And they will explain it like this....the chances of anything happening increases with time so basically hes telling you with the warranty that does come with the car...most likely nothing will happen during that time so they try to use scare tactics to make you think chances ARE higher that something will go wrong AFTER your factory warranty. I tell you this, if ANYTHING does happen after your factory warranty is up, I guarantee you it won't cost $3000 to fix. My finance guy tried to tell me that if the power seats give out there is no way to move them yada yada and that they are 1500 or some outrageous figure like that and I basically told him F*** U, I'll pay it when that time comes.

Side note: Did you get my PM bout the dealer?

I bought one with my '03 6MT almost 2 years ago. Covers everything (almost), and because I paid MSRP for the car (that's the best you could do in early '03), they supposedly cut me a deal (lol) on the warranty...I got it for $2G. I ordinarily never take a warranty on anything I buy, but since I actually bought this car (prior 3 cars were leases), and I loved it so much I planned on keeping it for at least the 100,000mi it covers, I decided to do it. After seeing the new '05 without the brembos, and having no problems at all with mine for 2 years, my plan to keep it for a long time has not changed. I financed it at a cheap rate along with my payments, so it wasn't too painful. Given that everything costs a fortune to fix today, I figured why not. And when I thought about my total price including the warranty, $37K, vs. the other car I was looking at, a BMW 330 similarly equipped which would have cost me almost $44K (and the G is a better performer), I figured I was still way ahead on the deal.

Got my extended warranty for about 1000...sales guy gave me 500-600 off....7 year 100,000 miles coverage bumper to bumper, i think was it.....some deal or something at the time of purchase of my 2004.5...

its also transferrable to the new owner so it may make selling ur car easier if you want to at a later time...and for 1000 dollars, whatever....

The way they push the extended warranty they must be making a lot of money from the extended warranty. If there is a defect it will show up sooner rather than later. I do not believe the extended warrantee will cover normal wear and tear. The big cost items would be included in the power train, and the standard warrantee is 72 month or 70,000 miles. After 6 years or 70,000 miles the car will only be worth a few thousand dollars.

i purchased the extended warranty. i bought my 04 coupe used with 29,881 miles on the odometer. plus, my old car (98 oldsmobile intrigue) had so many problems. i wish i had an enteded warranty on that car. now, i know the craftsmanship on the infiniti is 100000x better than the oldsmobile...but i would rather be safe than sorry.

http://www.carbuyingtips.com says that factory warranties are rip-offs and you should buy a 3rd party warranty from a reputable company.

Anyone have any experiences with 3rd party warranty claims on your G or other cars?

I bought an Infiniti Extended Warranty for $1344 at Grubbs (through the phone cause I'm in So-Cal). 7 years, 100k miles which gives me piece of mind.

so several of you bought the extended warranty, how many times have you used it so far? i'm sure most of you are not out of the basic warranty, so i guess how many times have you used the basic warranty so far then.

I didn't buy it, and I would say no, don't get it.

If you factor in the high reliability rating, I would say it's not worth it.

NO, not worth it. If you are really concerned, GEICO offers the same ext. warranty for much cheaper.

Not worth it- take my '91 300ZX for example. It's up to 164,000 miles now and runs great, and the only things that go wrong are the wear and tear items such as the alternator which was replaced at 110,000 miles. The only things that go out on my Z are the moving parts outside of the engine that you are expected to replace as they such as wheel bearings, etc. Infiniti knows that and the extended warranty makes them big bucks.

I don't keep my vehicles long enough to need one, but if I did, I'd consider an extended warranty on the powertrain.
For now tho, 6 yrs. is more than long enough for me.
