Question What to repair/replace first ?

I have a small conundrum that im trying to figure out. I was told by 2 different mechanics that if i want to do preventative maintenance on my car, i need to replace my Radiator/ hoses since the factory ones are crap. Struts and shocks should have been done at 50,000 miles so i was told by 2 other mechanics , and valve covers need replacing seeing its a problem with our G35s. I have the money to do this but which one should i do first ? My car has 82k miles on it and i am up to date with everything else so i think. Im in college so within the next month ill need to start buying parts and have this done over winter break. I like to be prepared

For My radiator im just going with the Koyorad A2258 and oem Hoses / thermostat - free installation

For Struts and Shocks im going with Tein H-Techs 350z or G35 and Bilstein HD Shocks - free installation

Valve covers are oem of course. labor = ? $.00

so please vote on which i should change out first

Wait, is anything actually broken? Are your hoses leaking? Installing this stuff would be like putting new tires on, when the tires you have are at 50%. I have 126k miles on my G, and I still have OEM shocks, they are still perfect. My radiator has never been changed and its perfect. And are you talking about your valve cover GASKET? Is it leaking? Why replace whats not broken?

preventative maintenance, i do not want things breaking down on me when im driving to class. Valve covers are a problem for out models. Radiators on our models i have heard they start leaking around after 10 years or so, and struts and shocks i was told mine do need replacing by my mechanic friend. all of our cars are different. I wish my car could last as long as yours.

I agree with Adrianvq...replace only if it's leaking...it should be noticeable if it is leaking...there isn't anything really to replace until you hit about 100k. It sound like those mechanics just want money. I suggest you find a different mechanic. I have 145k on my g and the radiator is still fine. No leaks from the valve covers either

Well these mechanic are my freinds, known them for quite a while and said would install the Radiator and Struts for free, im paying for these parts from outside suppliers and websites, so they're getting nothing out of it and doing this on their time off using the shop tools and lifts , but the valve covers i have to go to my mechanic at infiniti

With your mileage, none of those parts should be replaced as part of "preventative maintenance". If the struts are leaking or the valve cover(s) are leaking or the coolant hoses feel abnormal, then you should replace the part(s) in question. If you want to mod your G with an aftermarket radiator or lower it with some springs, that's a different story.

My G is a mile away from 100k

what maintenance would you suggest?

I was thinking spark plugs

Also, I need an O2 sensor and possibly an ABS sensor.. is O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 same as the rest???
Bought one from amazon and mechanic said he thinks theyre different.

My exhaust is rusted to hell. Probably going to buy a used Borla from a friend's friend. If not looking for a solid aftermarket one for a good price.. maybe around 1000
Im in college, ballin on a budget so i try to minimize price as much as possible

ANYWAY, advice on 100k tune up would be greatly appreciated..
what exactly needs to get done?

all you really need to do at 100k is change spark plugs and wires, change transmission oil, change rear diff oil, change the air filter, change cabin filter.

maybe change the thermostat as a preventative maintaince and a coolant flush.

I would also suggest replacing 02 and abs sensors with oem sensors. some times the ecu doesn't like aftermarket sensors.

You can buy a used g35/350z exhaust for $100-200

Nissans, hondas and toyotas are very reliable cars with low maintaince costs. My moms 03 camry shocks lasted until her car hit 260k. The car has 285k and her original oem water pump finally failed at 275k.

Pretty much what everyone has been saying. I would just save your money for now if nothing is broken/leaking.

+1

As long as they're properly maintained they'll basically last forever!

+1 on basically what everyone else has been saying; don't fix what isn't broken. If you were gonna rebuild your motor for whatever reason then yes, it'd be good to replace all of that and more. Yes, I do realize that this would be preventative maintenance but it'd be a waste of time and money. If your plans were to upgrade those parts then that would be a different story. Don't drive around like a 16 year old and your car will last.

I would do whatever is in need of repair or outstanding per the OEM recommendations.

i agree with what has been said here. If the valve covers are leaking oil, i would have those replaced. I have been stranded twice due to oil leaking into/on the alternator and shorting it out.
