Couple questions about upgrading my 05 coupe
Couple questions about upgrading my 05 coupe
Hey guys, just had a few quick questions about buying some OEM parts for my '05 6MT BO coupe.
I used to own an '04 6MT DG coupe and needless to say, I fell in love with the Brembos. I found a guy selling a set of all 4 Brembo calipers for a decent price but what else am I going to need to make them work perfectly? The set looks like it only comes with calipers and brake pads and nothing else.
Also, my floor mats are in need of an upgrade and I found a brand new OEM set but it specifically says it's for the 03-04 models. Is there a difference in the floor mats that don't make them compatible between the 03-04 and the 05-07 models?
Thanks for any help,
Chris

Hey there, I have a 04 Coupe as well. My buddy drives a 06 and barrows my all weather mats from time to time (Cut for a 04 coupe) and we haven't had any problems. With the OEM ones maybe it's just a little different look but not a different cut.
As far as the brembos go obviously you will need Rotors as well. Someone can add to this

I love the word "Upgrade" and that's what a set of Brembo brakes would be for your '05 coupe. If I were making this change I'd have those calipers rebuilt as a start so you'll be confident they'll work and last a long time. Check with our brake vendors for new rotors and brake lines. DBA makes replacement rotors for the Brembo's, you couldn't do any better! The mats are interchangeable, now worries! Good Luck with this Chris!

^ second gary's advice. I just went through a brembo swap last week. Buy the seal rebuild kits, clean and have the calipers painted/powdercoated, and then install the new seals. Buy some quality SS lines, rotors (use your vendor of choice, but I went through Charles at B2autodesigns) and brake pads if the ones you get don't make you happy. One thing to remember, you will need 4 bolts that need to be ordered from Nissan since the OEM rear bolts do not work, the part number if I remember right is 080412351A.
Aside from that, install will take a few hours at most, and most of that time is taking the old brakes off and bleeding the brakes. There is an excellent thread on my350z with pics of the swap process. Just take your time and have a friend help which makes it significantly faster. Here's mine before and after:

I did, everyone has their own way but this is my procedure:
(1) set of brushed alum logo cutouts (eBay, was like $5 shipped)
Take original centercaps, tape off edges, sand then bondo surface flat and smooth
-heavy coat of black paint, let dry 10 minutes, and carefully lay cutouts on paint. This will allow a stronger bond since paint is not completely dried.
-put in toaster oven, 30 mins at 150F, take out, dry overnight
-next day coat with clear wheel coating paint of you choice, 5-6 heavy coats to completely seal in the cutout and black paint
-toaster oven again for 45 mins at 150F, dry overnight
-install, sit back on the couch and crack open a cold one.

That would be much more difficult depending on the how the wheel looks (chrome vs brushed aluminum etc). The gloss black I have is easy to match, but I can see chrome or an aluminum being very hard to match. Granted, not impossible if you're willing to match the paint color, but you will likely spend alot of time wet sanding and polishing before applying the clear coat. I've done 3 sets of centercaps, one with the stock infiniti titanium color, one with gunmetal, and these black ones; the infiniti stock color was the most difficult and that was mostly color matching.
Yeah, I've seen that color, it look awesome. You could probably experiment by taking a piece of white plastic and spraying a selection of gunmetal colors on it and comparing them. White primer in theory with light coats of gun metal might give you the color you want.
