Well... Shes being painted

Free getting fed up with Infiniti's crap *** paint, the 100,000,000 rock chips on my car (some now rusting thanks to road salt!), I am having my G35C repainted. She will be going for a full body renewal, and being repainted in DuPont solvent based paint with a double clear coat, and 3M film. Before I get it painted I'm going to toss on a gialla grill for good measure.

The paint date is set in late feb, I will be sure to post pictures of her when she's brand new looking!

Thankfully I have friends in the auto body industry, so I'm just paying cost of paint/3M!

Can't wait to see the paint! I know its a long time from now, but ill try to keep this thread in mind and bump it maybe a year from now. I'd like to know how that paint setup resists stone chips and road debris. i'm not up for paint quite yet, but I see it coming in the next 2 yrs or so.

Oh nothing other then it chips when you look at it the wrong way. My car millions of rock chips. Enough that I can justify painting the car.

What color are you driving? Mine is AX6 laser red, which seems to be one of the bad ones for excessive chipping. It was very very hard to find a supplier for solvent based paint here, Calgary had this whole "go green" crap, so everyone was pushing water based on me. I was trying to get sikkens through my contact at Akzo Noble, but he couldn't help me.

Thankfully the old 3m has helped me and my painter figure out how to improve on it (where should be covered more, where didn't get any and such), so now my car should be bulletproof.

Yeah, the OEM paint is a bit weak. Mine actually looks great for 10yrs old as far as shine is concerned. Still looks better than my buddy's 07 MS3s paint. But I've barely touched it before and put a gnar scrape (down to the primer) with no effort. Good news is tho, I'm getting pretty good with touch up paint. Haha may start a new business.

My black roof is single stage
Fvkin hate it. Swear it's still soft to the touch and I can literally put fingerprints in it. No idea why. Gotta get it re done. Also I feel like any dirt on it gets forever trapped

OEM paint isn't single stage.

You failed to mention what color you are changing to.

No, but it's not a true base/clear when you mix the two and spray them together.

I'm not changing the color, I like AX6, I'm just repainting the car.

You have the opportunity to finally go different, and a simpler paint. You can do it for less too!!!

I believe some of our paints are multi stage paints. What color are you?

AX6 laser red. Wouldn't ever change the color, I've wanted a laser red G for a long time.

OEM paint is not a 1 stage. They are base/clear. The pearls are tri coat. I verified clear coat thickness on multiple G35s/G37s I have polished. Only time I have ever seen a single stage G was when it had a cheap MAACO respray. But some are hard clear coat and some are soft clear coat, depending on the color. Dark colors like black, red, blue are hard clear coats, light colors like white, silver are soft clear coats.

Doesn't change the fact it's possibly the worst paint out there. Before this G I drive several Audi's and BMW's, some of them 10-15 years old and they had maybe 1/10th of the chips my 6 year old G has.
