There is really nothing wrong with Infiniti paint. There is a problem with the regulations that demand that paints be environmentally friendly. The only fix is to maintain your paint. If you're over 50,000 miles you should expect some paint problems. The only way to not get paint chips is to go with a clear bra. My MB has paint called ceramiclear and it is very hard...however it is very thin. You really have to be careful when using a buffer not to cut through it. I have buffed the hell out of my Infiniti paint and have never had a problem. It seems to be a tradeoff. If you want perfect paint maybe go with a wrap.

Jerk!

I agree that paint will always have imperfections from standard use after a set amount of time or mileage in this instance however I believe these imperfections are much more easily acquired on the infinity than any other car I have owned. I have noticed this not only on my personal infinity but even while spending 6+ months looking for the best one to suite me that even infinity's with low mileage had alot of paint chips and sometimes even flaking paint. I bought my car with 34k and am up to almost 70k miles & can say without a doubt the front bumper has more standard nicks of missing paint on the front bumper/lip than my 20 year old honda that has x3 the mileage. Just something i noticed personally, still love the car & keep it waxed and clean as often as possible. Ill either be doing a clear wrap on the front once its warmer out or maybe a color change for summer w/wrap.

Anywho, think we got off topic, how about some pics OP!

Infiniti uses a primer under their top coats. It looks like some bodyshop cut some corners and just sprayed over the bare bumper. You can take a chip off the red and see if it's gray on the underside of the chip. If yes, then someone didn't prep the bumper. If it's red under the chip, it's not factory painted

I have seen other Laser Reds peel also and the red used on the Z.

The front has been painted before due to chipping, I'm assuming it was a cheap job (300 for a bumper is a bit low).

Good thing I'm getting the car properly painted...

I don't know where you go for paint, but if you're paying a lot more than 300 for a front bumper repaint, you're getting ripped.

I can get a front bumper painted by a reputable painter with PPG paint for 250. Prepped, primed, sanded primer, color coat, and layers of clear. They'll even cut and buff if needed.

600 is the going rate for a good job here. No matter where you go. I'm from a rich city, prices scale with that.

A good paint job is 7-10k here. My paint is being done for 3k.

Keeping your paint looking good doesn't happen by accident...takes work!

The only way your factory paint will look really good is to keep your G35 in a garage and use a car cover when you're at work or school! And that's only if you keep it clean and use a quality wax detailing your G several times a year...Gary

Calgary, home of almost every Canadian oil exec. Also home of the corporate offices of most Albertan oil companies. Having a Audi S4 or RS5 as a company car is the norm.
