New OB G35 coupe owner here!
Hi everyone
Just picked up this 06G coupe with 88k miles.
Had a few questions.
1. Why does it have an 03 wing? Seller said the car came like that from factory.. Could this be true?
2. The paint appears wavy in some angles. Like orange peel. Do any of you black G owners have this problem too?
3. The motor has. Slight ticking sound from motor. I'm monitoring the oil now so far I've driven 800 miles, and level hasn't changed YET. It blows some white smoke every morning though and it's hot outside. So it's not steam from the cold.
Any info would be appreciated.

Congrats on your car and welcome to the forum. My 06 came with the same wing. Ticking isn't normal. Did the car make that sound when you bought it? Mine made a ticking sound when I put too much sea foam in the gas tank. Went away when I filled the tank up.
Congrats, fellow OB G owner.
You'll need to describe the ticking a bit more in depth if you can. When does it normally happen? Does it do it all the time? While driving? While idling? Does it change on turns? Warm or cold motor?
...etc you get the point.
Not sure what you mean by the "wavy" paint though.

Hopefully it isn't ticking coming from the valve lifters (or hats, whatever you want to call them). Nissan uses a hat that sits on top of the valve, and the piece that contacts the valve sometimes can "mushroom". If so, it doesn't need to be replaced (won't harm the engine), but it is annoying as hell for sure. I attached a picture of what the lifter (hat) looks like.
Does it increase when you accelerate?
Side note, white smoke isn't good.

flywheel noise if 6mt and Orange peel would mean the vehicle has been resprayed due to prior accident. White smoke could mean coolant mixing so I would monitor your coolant level in the radiator and overflow tank.
Orange peel doesn't mean it was resprayed. Nissan has horrible orange peel on all their cars. My previous black G35 coupe had really bad orange peel.

Hi guys.
The ticking knocking sounds increases with the rpm...
It sounds kinda bad... Coming directly from the motor. I took the engine cover off and you can hear it better... It smokes up in the mornings. But I have a 350z and it smokes up white too.. Idk if it's common

Quick tip (might not work in all cases)
If it came from the factory there will be NO third brake light inside the car behind the rear seats. Yours looks like it has the 3rd brake light integrated into the spoiler but I can not see above that in your photos.

Welcome to Driver!
White smoke is generally radiator fluid, watch it carefully. You could pull the plugs, look for moisture.

Mine does this. But only about 1 qt of 50/50 per 4000 miles.
You have never dealt with a head gasket failure yet? Man...you are lucky
I haven't known the G35 to have head gasket problems, but I suppose it happens. I used to deal with it all the time with my Acura Legend's. Anyway, the smoke you describe does not sound normal, remember, white smoke equals coolant, which means failed headgaskets. Black/blue-ish equals oil, which means failed rings, valve stem seals or guides. If you are losing coolant AND seeing smoke you are probably in failed headgasket territory.
I can't tell you how much I hate doing head gasket jobs, but, shops usually charge $1500-2000, so paying someone to do it isn't really feasible for me. Get a leakdown test, as your gasket, if failed, would likely have failed in the position that is taking in coolant rather than forcing out exhaust gases (though sometimes a failure can do both, USUALLY, there will be a preference depending on the type of failure). Don't let the engine overheat, otherwise you are looking at milling the heads and possibly the deck of the block too; that's a bunch more work (at that point it's just better to remove the entire engine).
About the paint, my paint has no observable orange peel, just as good as anything I have seen on brand new cars right off the lot, perhaps your car is from the Southwest or was in an accident and resprayed. LOTS of Honda's are resprayed over here because the paint fails within the first few years, shitty Honda paint >
Most of these resprays are Maaco jobs, or otherwise LOW quality "budget resprays". Nissan's paint seems to hold up better in the AZ sun, but, it can and does still fail; if your car spent anytime in the Southwest, it could have been resprayed because the clearcoat already began to fail.
The wing does look 03-04, but, wings and spoilers can be changed. I have on 06 with the factory spoiler, and it isn't that type of wing (so glad too, I am NOT a fan of that "wing" type). Anyway, the pics look good, if you wouldn't have told me/us all of whats going on I would have told you that it looked like a pretty sweet car. Good luck with the possible head gasket stuff...those kinds of jobs drive me crazy, which is why I ultimately sold my Acura Legend, owned 7 of those cars, 5 had or developed head gasket failures within a years time.
