The OP's car is an auto-tranny. You're talking about if he had a 6MT.

With the Auto Tranny, the upshift and downshift mechanisms are essentially a "i'd like to upshift or downshift now" request that the ECU receives and processes. If it determines that the conditions are safe to allow the requested upshift/downshift, it will do it. If not... it will do nothing. They basically designed the auto tranny to be idiot-proof.

This thread just needs to be closed, end of story. OP is either a huge troll or has one messed up ride. Any one here who thinks you can downshift into a red line on an auto tranny is a F*CKING RETARD!

I don't know about NISSAN products (all I have driven is my 6MT, and I'm not stupid enough to try that in my Frontier), but all the American iron I have ever owned would do it. It what you say is true, this thread is trolling.

The only thing I can think of is that he actually shifted into neutral, revved, then tried putting it back into D. The MM doesn't allow me to downshift into redline or beyond, well at least for me.
