G35 Coupe Not Starting After Stillen Intake
G35 Coupe Not Starting After Stillen Intake
Hey guys, I'm fairly new to this forum, but I just installed a Stillen K&N Hi-Flow Intake w/ Z-Tube yesterday. After the first initial start-up, everything was fine (The intake sounds amazing too!
). But, after driving around yesterday, I noticed that the car does not want to start after the car being warm. For instance, I drove to the store today and was in there for about 10 minutes, come out and it just dies. It turns over but just loses power and shuts off. To get it started, I will turn the ignition and have to give it some gas to keep it alive. Since the installation of the intake she runs great, it's only the start up. There are no lights either.
I have tried to reset the ECU by following this video
and it seemed like it worked, as my car was starting after, but it was on the verge of shutting off.
This is the intake kit I installed yesterday: http://www.stillen.com/product/intak...-4dr-8705.html
Once again, the car starts fine when I haven't driven it for about an hour or so. I need all the help I can get!

No the filter is fine, and yeah I figured I should try and clean the MAF and hope for the best. I just want to know if others who have added mods have experienced this, I've be lurking around and some say that the car needs to learn the new modifications that have been done, so I'm hoping that's the same case with me.
Most likely you have an intake air leak. I would go back and check all the rubber connections to make sure the rubber didn't roll over while you where trying to put it on and now there's an air leak.
If you have the app Torque you can check the short term and long term fuel trim to see if you have a lean condition.

What is the relearning procedure? Figured that's resetting the ECU if I'm not mistaken?

Unplugging the MAF won't have any effect, I've had 3 different intakes and never even did a ECU relearn. I did unplug the negative side of the battery while making the swap just like Stillens instructions recommends! Take your G to a mechanic that has the right tools, I'd bet your MAF has gone bad...Gary

an intake shouldnt cause any of what youre experiencing nor the car needs to "learn". signs are pointing to some kind of screw up during install. the car should have started right up with no hesitation.
theres something funky goin on there. i would do a triple check all your vacuum hoses. especially if the car was running good before it.
another thing you can do is reinstall the OEM intake and see if the problem persists. that way youll get a confirmation if theres something else going.
