Wtf is that anyway? Why are they only on some Gs? Was there a trim designation that included door bumpers?

 

I was just about to ask if they came on all of them or what, it's been tripping me out. Maybe only certain years? mines an 03 coupe and it doesn't have them

 

Nope, I've seen them on all years and on both coupes and sedans, and they seem to be installed randomly (as in no correlation with any other package I.e. aero, sport, etc). It's kinda weird.

Maybe they were shipped to the dealer with the car and they were installed at dealers discretion.

 

Alright. that's annoying af. probably just something that you could order for those people who don't know how to open a door without hitting the next car

 

Dealer installed option. My buddy purchased an 07 new, he asked me if he should get them. I told him it was a good concept, only if every other car on the planet was the same height as the G, and asked if he wanted to take away from the clean lines of the car. Pretty easy to talk him out of it in he end.

OP, if you take them off you will have some ghosting.

 

Nothing a little wd40 won't take care of. I'd assume it's just like debadging.

 

I'd recommend caution before removing those. If the car is real old and those were on there from the beginning when the car was new, the paint everywhere else will probably be faded and slightly lighter than the color under those bumpers. If you remove them, you might find that there are dark spots on the doors where the guards used to be and it will look like a$$.

Congrats on your purchase though! It's interesting looking at the front of a G35 without a license plate in the center. It almost looks a little empty and weird to me now after being so used to seeing a plate there.

You'd be surprised, depending how hard and long all that gunk underneath it is you may need too use a heat gun and be super carful you don't ruin your paint...

 

Don't scare the man! We as a community need all of the door bumpers on all Gs removed from society!
