Spoilerdeopt rear spoiler

I've rcieved my rear spoiler from spoilerdepot last week (it has been raining a lot here in So. Cal., so couldn't install it then). I was wondering if there are any other members out there that know how to prep my trunk for the install. The spoiler uses 3M adheisve tape.

Which type of spoiler did you get? Lip spoiler or the OEM style? Does it have the brake light in it? If it's simply a stick-on then you don't need to do anything except strip off the wax and make sure it's super-clean so you get good adhesion.

Im also in SoCal and I installed my spoiler about a week ago. It was easy. I would recommend that you first wash the car then use a clay bar to remove any comtaminants from the rear top portion of the trunk. I purchased some more double sided 3M adhesive tape and added it to the bottom of the spoiler to fill in the areas where no tape was placed. You should dry fit the spoiler and see where you want it to go. I also marked the center of the trunk and the spoiler to match them up. Then just remove the protective film from the 3M tape and gently and carefully lower the spoiler on the trunk, starting in the middle. Then you can carefully apply pressure to the sides making sure they are even. Then make sure contact between the trunk and spoiler is made across the entire trunk.

I was amazed on how well the 3M tape held. I added more because I feared it would fly off on the freeway but there is no way this thing will come off.

I hope this helps.

Just do what DJM said....my install took 2 minutes. It's really easy if you prep right. I just got back from L.A. and the weather sucked. I was hoping to witness some of the SOCAL sunny weather, but it rained on us the whole time we were there. DISAPOINTMENT! Good luck with the install.

Thanks guys for your response to my post. I purchased the lip spoiler. It was $195.00 (painted) and $28.06 for shipping/handlling. I will be doing the install next weekend.

G35Chick...were you referring to the OEM replica spoiler they offer? Becuase they offer that one significantly cheaper then the one we are reffering to. We're talking about the lip, deck lid type spoiler shown in csukoh's post, and on my car in the members gallery.

perfect. It looks really good. my only advice is to PLEASE prep the site as well as possible so you dont have the mounting headache I did. I washed it thoroughly and it wasnt enough...the tape, (although sticky as a mother) will not stick if there is any wax on it whatsoever.
Get a good wax stripper and bug and tar remover and clean the site well. Use a clay bar to remove any contaminants, and then clean thoroughly. Then rub the site down with rubbing alcohol. Put the spoiler on, pressing HARD and holding for at least a minute, then DO NOT wet it at all for at least 48 hours. (rain or car wash) Water will soak into the foam of the tape and cause it to release if you wet it prematurely.
The tape needs at least two heating up and cooling down cycles to permanently bond. Keep rechecking at day and at night to ensure the bond. After that, good luck getting it off. Seriously, you could lift the car by this stuff. haha
Wax the trunk lid and spoiler asap then enjoy.
