Due to hurricane flooding my driver seat wont move forward or backward

Hello all,

Recently there has been a hurricane which came through Houston area, which caused major flooding. Fortunately, me and my family were safe, however my car did get flooded as 4 ft of water came in. Obviously my car got flooded, and its been exactly one day since the water has receded. However, the driver side seat is no longer able to move forward or backward, it is suck in a position where its all the way close to the steering wheel, which is a problem for me since I'm 6 FT tall. The passenger side was not working until this morning, so I am hoping the same for the driver side, is there something i can look at to get my driver side to work? (PS, it can still recline up and down, just not forward and backward if that make sense)

Glad to hear you and yours are ok.

Dug this up in another post:

take front facia off the seat bottom (two screws). You should be able to see the motor the powers foward and reverse. Three screws on each side holds the drive motor to seat rails. Remove the six screws and unplug the motor and remove. You can manually adjust the seat with a 10mm wrench. You will need to alternate sides to keep seat moving rearward evenly.

Does any of the electrical work? I would think you've got major shorting after such significant flooding and that you've blown fuses, etc.

All of the electricals still work, when i press the adjustment buttons on the seat it goes up and down, it just doesnt go back or foward...I am glad I can adjust the seat with a 10mm wrench though...

You can troubleshoot the switch via the pin layout in the FSM as well as the seat motor. Probably the motor that fried since they're the part most susceptible to water damage.

Easiest way would be to take off the plastic panels around the seat, unplug the harness for the drive motor, use a digital multimeter (might have to put a paperclip on the harness because the openings are so small) read resistance (ohms) back to the chassis, if you have bare metal on the seat bolts that should suffice. The reading should be the same as if you touched both of the meter leads together (0 ohms or close to it). One prong on the harness should have that ground, the other.prongs should have 5vdc when you press the switch.

I haven't taken that harness off and I'm on my phone so I can't check the fsm but it's probably a 3 wire harness, ground, seat switch up, seat switch down. If you have voltage at the motor then the motor is bad.

Ok had a minute to check out the FSM, not sure exactly what year or chassis your vehicle is but I guess at a 2005 sedan If you look on page 79 of the FSM here:

http://www.nicoclub.com/service-manu...5_G35_Sedan/se

It shows the sliding motor connector has a G(green) and G/R(green w/ red stripe) so that's the connector you are looking for (if the colors are the same on yours, they probably are).

It's supposed to be battery voltage, 12vdc, according to the troubleshooting steps on page 40.

Hope this helps!

Just unbolt the seat, two bolts in the front, two in the rear, easily accessible, then you can lift up the side and get under it better.

36 ft/lbs torque when you bolt the seat back down.

there is absolutely no way I can unbolt the two bolts in the front of the seat, the seat is moved so far up that only the rear bolts are the only one I can have access too, any ideas on how to get around this?

Did you remove all the plastic seat trim first? Those bolts should still be accessible, side trim just snaps into place (might have had one screw on the bottom edge at the rear of the seat, can't remember), front trim has two phillips screws holding it in, the front and side snap together.

so I have an 04 Coupe 6MT, this is a picture for reference, but if the seat is move ALL the way up, and I cant get to the front bolts, how would I be able to manually move the seat back? The seat is overing the bolts so thats why I was saying I might be unable to unbolt the two in the front

Those plastic covers at the end of the bottom track pop off and the seat mounting bolt is underneath.
