Thinking about Buying G35

Thinking about Buying G35
Just sold my 2012 ford focus back to ford for being a lemon.
I'm a model 3 reservation holder and planning to buy one but my delivery date has been pushed back twice now. (who knows how long this will take but right now it's looking like 4-6 months)
I have a Nissan titan to drive in the meantime but my daily commute is about 80 miles so it is not practical to really use it as my daily, although I could probably do that.
Parents have an extra car they don't use all the time, it's a 2004 G35 coupe with about 100k on it and I will be borrowing it while shopping for a car. They said I could buy it off them so long as I give them first dibs when I go to sell it in 6 months. I think they want roughly 5k. It's probably not the best for a commuter but it's also going to be temporary. I was looking at buying a used chevy volt as it's more practical but then I'm looking at more than double the price and not sure if it will even hold it's value after I put another 10k+ miles on it ion 6 months.
Should I just buy it and have fun for 6 months?

That's a reasonably fair price and you have a better idea of the past history of the vehicle, so that's a good thing. Expect no better than 25 mpg and the upcost for premium; don't know what your Titan is getting, but I can't imagine there would be too much difference. I'd go for the six months of fun....

Hey another 2012 Ford Foc-us owner! Mine has had 3 clutches, rear main seal twice, transmission input shaft seals (the new ones that supposedly don't leak), two transmissions, 7 software updates that were "based on customer feedback intended to improve shift function" and they all SUCK, 5 total tranny shift motors (not sure how many times A motor or B motor were replaced just that it was 5 different new ones went in) I completely feel your pain...
Fortunately all that work was covered under warranty, currently sitting at 98k miles.
I feel so bad for anyone that buys a 2012-2014 AT focus, the likelihood of mechanical failure of the powershift automatic is SEVERE.
The rest of the vehicle is amazing, the 5MT ones were perfect.

Sounds like an expensive time consuming fix to me. As in it will cost about as much as the car is worth. I was quoted $3500 for my 2012 at a few places. I'm still undecided on what to do. I'm kind of interested in picking up a Volt but they are considerably more expensive.

Used tranny is only $700 complete with A and B motors, I'll just do it myself. It's the new clutch that will be expensive at about $1200 in just parts.
Either way I shouldn't have issues for a while, Ford is confident that the new input shaft seals were the actual source of all the parts failures.
