Re: Stolen HIDs..??
it would take quite a bit of work and a good amount of time to steal the HID's.

Re: Stolen HIDs..??
I agree, what are they gonna steal? The bulb or the whole housing? I suppose you could jack it and sell it to a car w/o HID, but that would'nt apply to the coupe. I thought all TL's come with HID as well....... guess not...

I'm from NYC as well. I know the TL, and Maxima headlights are hot commodities in NYC. We have experts in the area that can remove the whole unit without even denting the hood or fender. The only way to protect yourself is to park in well lit areas and have a real sensitive alarm.
I've had friends park for 5 mins in front of a club, and come back outside to find two gaping holes where the headlights used to be. Just cross your fingers and pray. LoL

It's always a possibility to have your ride jacked. I think to get those HID's out would take some work tho and attract some attention. Only thing to do is be real careful where you park or get a real sensitive alarm system (PITA)

Re: Stolen HIDs..??
i still think it would take a while.. you can't get to the bolts of the housing without removeing the entire bumper.. you can't remove the lights unless you do this, or by removing the fender lining.. if someone wanted to steal the lights off a G, they'll either have to take the time to carefully take off the bumper, or be ruthless and rip it off and rip off the housing.. the G would not be a quick steal..
is there really a big market for the light housing of the G? i can see it for other cars like the TL, accord, maxima, since there are so many of them riding around..

Re: Stolen HIDs..??
Unfortunately I have a bad low beam head light on my coupe (it was going on and off, it is off now). Dealer said it is the first coupe they have seen with this problem and they are going to replace the bulb to start with. They said they need the car for 2 hours - so it obviously isn't quick to get the bulb out! I guess a thief could just break it out!! The Dealer also commented that the bulb costs a couple of hundred dollars, so no wonder the theives are interested!!!
Re: Stolen HIDs..??
I heard that TLs are the big target because the headlight housings are a direct replacement for some of the Hondas, so there is a HUGE market for the HIDs.

Re: Stolen HIDs..??
The design of certain headlight housings (i.e. Acura CL/TL) is the flaw of them being easy to steal. The way some of them are engineered make the housings as easy to steal as prying them out with a screw driver. Some automakers HID are difficult to steal. It's those riced out Civic scumbags that desire the HID ballasts and bulbs so they can retrofit them to fit their Integra or Civics or whatever. They could care less about the housings. I had a CL and the ballasts were directly attached to the housing, what an awful design. There wouldn't even be that much damage to the bumber or hood. It's that simple.
Ok, maybe it's not the Civic owners but the people that steal for them that are the scumbags. But they are creating demand for them.
