Just had my Camshaft sensor and some exhaust leaks fixed and wow...

Just wanted to share how brand new my car feels again after having to replace the camshaft sensor and also getting new piping for my exhaust leaks, it honestly feels like a brand new car again i am super impressed lol.

My car died a few days ago just idling after startup in a parking lot, VDC, SLIP CHECK Engine lights all came on. Car would crank but wouldnt turn over a few times...i let it sit for a second and got it started with those lights all on. Next day brought it to mechanic and he fixed it and i gotta say it drives like brand new. I was a little worried at first because it was almost too quiet, It did not sound like a G but today it seems to be getting the distinct coupe exhaust notes it once had, I am in love with the g again.

I recently fixed a nasty exhaust leak as well and the car sounds a lot better. I didn't want to spend another 100+ dollars at the muffler shop though. I spent about 15 bucks on FibaFix HeatWrap and it's a pretty good product. You wet it for about 10 secs, wring out the water, wrap it around the exhaust leak, and then use a heat gun or the car itself to help it harden. It's basically a cast for exhaust and even if I have to pay 15 bucks yearly to fix it. It's much cheaper than paying an exhaust shop 150 bucks to do 10 minutes worth of welding every year or two.

My exhaust wasn't just a weld or two lol. My flex pipe was gone and a few other areas near the muffler so he replaced the whole piping lol. Problem with me is i can't weld nor do i have the tools to do that work on the car myself. It would cost me more in tools to do that job than to just get him to do the work. However my first problem was not the exhaust leaks..my main priority problem was the camshaft sensor basically leaving me stranded. the exhaust leaks were there for over a year and i guess i got used to it. But man what a difference it made. I also had to get my DRL harness replaced because it was doing some stupid nonsense. My passenger side daytime light would sometimes be on and intermittently go out, but when it did go out my driver side day time running light would almost double in light output capacity lol. So he replaced the harness for it.

I was so happy with the work done that after i got the car back i got inspired and i did the headlights myself because the headlights were so hazy it was ridiculous. So i wetsand with 1000grit, repeat with 2000 grit and then i bought some product by meguairs called perfect clarity for plastic headlights. It's a 2 step process they include in the kit and omg i can see again. This stuff blew my mind.

It won't last though. Get the lenses clear coated for long lasting clear headlights.

+1 on Urban's advice to professionally clear the headlights. Also I hope your mechanic used an OEM Nissan cam sensor. If he didn't, prepare to replace it again fairly soon as the majority of our cars don't play nice with aftermarket ones. A few here got lucky with aftermarket but they are few and far between.

this also happened to me recently, I felt the cam sensor go out while i was driving. luckily i made it home, hooked up a code reader. it was the passenger side. ordered both genuine nissan sensors from amazon (havnt installed the driver side yet). Took 30 mins replace. Hopefully your mechanic used genuine nissan and hopefully he didnt charge you more than $50 cause it was super easy haha

Yea, I had my y-pipe go out about two or three years ago and the mid pipe flanges were shot (I bought a used one from someone local). I first bought a Megan HR pipe and that lasted about two years before those pipes were shot as well. I bought a cheapo Walker this time around and replacing it a second time was a PITA. I had to press out the studs on the CATs using that small ball joint separator from Harbor Freight and then replaced them with some new hardware. I also have my midpipe welded to the muffler around the same time, but that also rotted away, which is where I used the fiber wrap.

I wish I knew how to weld as well, since it would save me a ton of money.

Definitely, use some clear coat otherwise the headlights will last about 6-12 months. I did mine about 2-3 years ago with the same process and it last about a year before turning yellow again.
