04 G35 Coupe Rust Repair Progress
I had some rust around my rear fender wheel arches that I thought I could fix myself, until I took off the rocker panel moulding and saw just how bad it was. So I pulled the trigger and brought my car where a professional can work on it.
The guy had mentioned that a lot of rust happened because of the sunroof drain which was clogged that led to the water just pooling on the inside. I tried to find more information on these sunroof drains and where it leads out of but I can't seem to find any. Even the manual don't mention where exactly they are on the vehicle.
Anyway here are some photos.

for everything which includes the driver side and the passenger side. The cutting the welding, the parts, the paint. He’s also redoing my roof and touching up other places $1800

If he's doing it properly that's a good price. The rear drains as a rule do one of 3 things. They drop down through the body and exit inside the frame rails, they come out inside the rear wheel houses or they'll go into the trunk behind the trim and go through the quarter panels behind the bumper cover where it turns around the quarter panel. There should be a grommet that seals where they go through the body and it should stick through about an inch. There should also be a seal if it comes into the wheel houses. It would also be worthwhile to check carefully around the back glass as debris can get around it and rust a hole under the edges of the glass. If it leaks there it goes straight into the trunk or over the wheelhouse into the quarters.

Well I had told him that I was in no rush. So he’s at it for 3 months now. I have a beater car I’m driving. But he’s sending me updates and he mentions how it needs to be done right or else it’ll just come back. Chilllll dude he is.
thank you for that! Is there any schematic or outline of this? In the first picture that big rust hole was where the water was pooling

well I own the car no loans or anything. Bought it with 37K off the original owner. Also, it’s the car that pretty much revived Infiniti. It already was a challenge finding one in 6speed especially one that wasn’t beat. I could go buy a newer 370 or even the new Infiniti’s but there’s just an aura about the G35 and that VQ that isn’t found in most recent models, everything seems to blend in on the roads with their led headlights. So who knows? I just have a feeling that the G35 will become a classic. Even right now. If it’s clean oem I get comments by strangers all the time
Only thing I wish they'd done(personal opinion) is kept the original style lights on the G's through the 37's and just improved the fog lights, they were unique.

Good for you for keeping the car. If the rest of the car is working and you know the history, I think $1800 to get the car looking new with no rust is a solid deal.
Here is a video of a guy who takes apart a sunroof of ironically, a G35. There are drains at each corner. He shows the tubes that run from the roof to the body..

I have the same problem as you now with my car but mine is not that bad under the rocker panel. I am repairing it myself since I work in autobody shop. It’s a very long process to cut and make new pieces with only hammers and dolly but it’s very doable.
