Is $5,300 a good deal on this 6mt coupe with 147k?
Hi guys I have been looking to buy a g35 coupe with manual trans for a while now.
I came across this 2006 coupe with 147k miles, I went to check it out and it was SUPER CLEANN inside out (other than the hood), the interior looks 9/10
it has bc coilovers, megan rear camber kit and topspeed exhaust, 0 engine mods. heres a link to it
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 756313643/
but here are the problems:
After the test drive the engine OVERHEATED while idling, the owner stated it NEVER happened before
low power steering fluid
Some black stuff on the tip of the dipstick, i don't know if that was just from pulling out the dipstick as it was EXTREMELY hard to do or put it back in
The guy would go down to 5300 and that's it, but my offer is 5200 minus how much it would cost to fix the overheating issue(I will get a pre-purchase inspection before I buy)
Should I go ahead and accept the offer for 5300 or should I insist on my offer? whats the worst case scenario on the overheating issue because I don't want to miss out on such a clean g.
thanks in advance!

If it's got a clean title that's a good price because you can just toss in a used Rev-Up motor for about $4000 and be at fair market value.
I would assume the engine is smoked if he's selling it that cheap.
Or it's a salvaged title in which case I would pass...

and we test drove the car, it pulled hard and it ran smooth, no weird noise or excessive smoke coming out of the exhaust.
and yes I made sure it has a clean title.
The overheating is what concerns me, could he a few things like thermostat, electric fans, however it could also be a failing head gasket... I really suspect that they weren't being truthful when you were told "it's never happened before" which makes me think they're trying to hide something.
Definitely get the pre purchase inspection from Nissan/Infiniti.

We were just all chilling and talking while the car was sitting there for about 15 mins then it overheated. Given the price is it still worth to spend $150 to get a pre purchase inspection?

The price seems incredibly low, but I haven't been watching the market. I would expect a clean 2006 6MT coupe with premium package to sell for $9-10k here in Washington state. Depending on mileage of course.
around here $5-6K is average.
To the OP, get the inspection done first before you even consider buying this car. There’s no reason why it should overheat while idling for 15mins or so. If it happens once it can happen again.
keep looking around also. Plenty of other G’s for sale. Don’t get hung up on one
Not sure where you are located, but I live in California and got mine for 2900, and nothing major is wrong with it.
I would say get it inspected AT A PROPER SHOP OR INFINITI DEALER since most shops dont check everything (A lot of bad experience), once you know how much you dumping into the car you can go from there.
My advice, if you gonna dump over 1500 stay away, and the car shouldnt be more than 4000.
Also check on Kelly Blue Book for their prices.
