Y pipe assistance
Y pipe assistance
Hello, so I have an 06 G35 and currently got a muffler delete and kinetix HFC’s. I plan on replacing my y pipe and was set on getting the motordyne xyz pipe y pipe w resonator until..I read and learned that mix and matching different pipe sizes plays as a factor to the rasp and hiss that happens. Considering MD is a 3’’ outlet to the resonator being 4.5’’ I believe, my HFC’s lay around 2.13 inlet and 2.25 outlet. I still have the stock OEM midpipe which I believe if I’m not mistaken is 2.5’’.
My main concern is:
1. Is the MD XYZ Y pipe something I could rely on to reduce rasp although midpipe and the xyz y pipe are totally different regarding sizes?
2. If MD XYZ isn’t really beneficial for my set up, any chance you gentlemen know any other y pipe’s to look at? I was going to go for z1 or Tomei but wasn’t sure about how much rasp I’d get.
thank you! I’m still a noob to the whole car world community so apologies if I made a mistake somewhere but I been looking online everywhere and had a serious headache tryna to figure what to do lol

I would just use the stock HR y-pipe, the reason for ditching the stock pipe is it has a longer collector and shorter y-section. The HR pipe is the exact opposite, shorter collector and longer Y. Diameter won't matter too much since you're still running into the stock midpipe.
Yeah you want to be aware of pipe diameter it's going to be heavily determined by what size pipe you have for your muffler delete.
Personally I think you should look at the HKS knockoff cat back exhausts, true dual will gain a lot more power than running back into a single midpipe, it will also sound better than a muffler delete coupe.
Something like this cheapo HKS rep, have a muffler shop install and get a better resonator installed. It's a system that can be modified as needed later but has all the components you need except for the extension (since it's for a 350z you need an extension made, might as well have the muffler shop do it).

Kinetix HFC’s and Rev9 catback exhaust
Currently I’m with the HFC’s and a muffler delete, I am just looking around and originally I was gonna replace the y pipe to something like motordyne xyz with resonator, Tomei or z1 but considering I still have a stock midpipe I heard that the difference in pipe size can cause rasp. So if I don’t find something I’m set with regarding a y pipe, and keeping the muffler delete, do you guys think the Kinetix HFC’s and Rev9 would be a good combo? If not, any other in mind? I’m definitely trying to have that nice deep loud VQ sound just not as much rasp to it like a lawnmower.
