Radiator support question.

2004 G35 coupe. Bought a used radiator support off another 04 G and I’m having a problem aligning the thread holes with the holes in the support. It’s as if it’s too short to fit. The very top holes line up fine but then the lower ones need to be moved to the right to fit which continues the problem. Unless the sports package has a different sized support I have zero idea what’s going on.

It's the exact same support from 2003+ for all G35 models except for the sport equipped 2007-2008 G35S sedans which use a different one. The 350Z one is very different in shape and doesn't have the "wings" on either side.

That’s what I was thinking but we tried everything to get in on my car and it wouldn’t align correctly. Could it be cause of it being a sports package version or no?

The one from the 2007-2008 sport sedan doesn't look anything like the other one though, it's got big round openings for the radiator fans not the big "sort of square" shape that the rest of them have. Take a picture of exactly what's going on.

Is it the support itself that you cannot get bolted in correctly or are you having trouble bolting something else to the support?

This looks like your support yes?

Here’s the frame with the radiator. My thought is that the frame is shifted to the right but it doesn’t look like it.

Frame from above.

I can only get them on the top.

Here’s where the holes don’t line up with the frame.

Holes don’t line up on the top and bottom holes either.

Yeah here’s the whole support.

My 10 cents worth from running a collision shop for 20 years is that the frame rails are kicked over a bit just ahead of the cradle/front sub-frame. If most any car is tapped from the side where the impact lands primarily on the front bumper's rebar it can push the whole thing over just a bit. Since the g uses a composite core support there is virtually no room for adjustment. If the cars nice I'd just take it to a decent collision shop and let them put it on a bench and pull the rails together back into specs. That core support when it's straight should literally fall into place.

Or use a lineup tool to get the bolts in.

The line up tool will work to a point if you're only a bit off, maybe a 1/8 to 3/16 per bolt hole max(he didn't say how far off it was) or I guess you could take a die grinder and slot the holes as I think I remember that the rails are threaded. You have to remember though that this is a formed composite(i.e. plastic) part that is built up where those bolts go through and they aren't intended to have any stress on them at all as far as mounting them up. It's not the same as fooling with a steel core support. The die grinder routine cuts away at the reinforced area and if you pry it over too much it will move the mount points for the fenders creating an upper alignment problem. To me, again, if it's a decent car that you're going to keep I'd spend a few bucks and get it pulled back into spec.

I have same problem

Yo I have the same exact problem 04 g35 coupe n the radiator support that I got was a used one off a 04 g35 coupe. I thought maybe my frame was bent but the old radiator support fit fine. I only replaced it Kuz it has a big crack. N now that I see someone else is having the same exact problem I highly doubt that both our frames have been bent to the side to the same exact amount. Your pics look exactly the same as mine. Please let me know what u did to fix if u fixed this…. Please and thank you
