Camshaft position sensor issues

New owner of a 2005 g35 with 80k miles, i've owned it almost two months or so now. Everything was great up into I got a code for P0345. I did some research and decided to try to tackle it on my own, got the sensor out and everything pretty smoothly, then realised that it had the wrong sensor. The sensor in bank 2 was the same as bank 1 even though from what I understand it should be a different sensor. I couldn't even get the sensor it says it requires because the pigtail only fits the sensor for bank 1. I figured since the previous owner had ran it with this that I could just throw a new bank 1 sensor in and be good, but here a few days later i'm back to the same code with check engine light, the SLIP light and VDC off has come on twice in the past few days as well. Would the best solution be to just buy a new pigtail to fit the correct sensor? Also, could there be possible damage done by having the wrong sensor in it for who knows how long?

The only difference between the bank 1 and bank 2 sensor is that one of them is slightly angled on the harness side. It wont damage anything if u were to install them on opposite sides.

BTW, only install original Nissan or Hitachi sensors. The other aftermarket brands just dont work right for some reason. Pay a little more and save yourself the headache.

Awesome! Thank you for your reply, you definitely saved me a headache. I know I threw in a cheap one just in case I needed to rewire it, in that case I'll go grab one of the oem sensors and see if that takes care of my code.

Help Please! Driving home today, and my 2003 G35 (70,000 Miles) stalled illuminating the Service Engine Soon, VDC (Off), and Slip annunciators. Car starts, but cranks for longer than normal and all lights remain illuminated, however car seems to drive OK. Thanks for any assistance or insight that you can provide to remedy this issue.

OBD2 scan to see what the car is telling you is the issue, that's why the light is on.

OK, Code Scanned indicated Camshaft Position Sensor. Replaced and all works well now. Unfortunately, I broke the green spring tab on the harness attacment, however, the plug appears to be snug on the sensor. Is replacing the green harness difficult? Thanks all!

You can buy replacement harnesses but it will REQUIRE solder/shrink tube. You cannot just crimp butt splice them back together. For the future you have to push the release tab towards the sensor to unlock it, not like a squeeze release type.

Personally I would just tightly wrap electrical tape around both the harness and sensor to make sure it doesn't come unplugged. Then buy the harness and some day when you have it torn apart for other reasons replace the harness then.

Thank you for that update. I ordered the harness, but like the idea of electrical tape for now. Be well!

Scorpio made a thread with good pics for a very easy way to remove that harness, unbolt the sensor from the head then get it to a position where you can use pliers to release the lock tab.

Hey, OP here after a little while and still having some issues. Got the OEM sensor as was suggested above and it drove great for a few days then the issue returned. This time I have P0345 and C1130. The issues I'm having are super intermittent, completely random and I can't find any type of pattern to the issue coming back. I just went out earlier, checked all my fuses, undid the sensor and tested the pigtail with a multimeter and as far as I understand it's producing the right voltage. Am I looking at an ECU issue? If so is there any way to test it? I know it's super easy to get to

You replaced the cam sensor that was on the left side (US driver side) yes?

And you are SURE it was an OEM sensor, like you purchased it from a local Nissan or Infiniti dealership? If you bought an eBay "genuine nissan parts" sensor for $25 it was a fake.

Multimeter won't test the signal from a hall effect sensor, gotta use an oscilloscope.

Yes, I got it from autozone, it was a Hitachi brand sensor for like $70. I'm pretty sure that's the OEM one, please correct me if i'm wrong. Ahh, I don't have an oscilloscope so i'm out of luck there. Also I've replaced both sensors, the code was for drivers side which I put an OEM sensor in, but my passenger side has a duralast
