For simplicity's sake, I was looking for something like the KYB strutplus kit for the G35 so I can just plop them on and be done. Somehow, I don't see one. Does anyone make a pre-assembled kit for the car? Not looking for coilovers as the cost is not what I want to spend.
What year is your car TRD I believe it was has the fronts google ready strut for your car and they will come up I believe they were around 200 and I saw another set for 160 that was just the fronts though was also for my 07g35x but I would think they have them for yours also hope this helps
Personally I never do those assembled strut deals, you end up with wrong spring rates pretty regularly and especially on a sport car platform that's no bueno.
A heavy duty spring compressor is severely overkill for these cars but definitely has an increased level of safety. Our stock spring rates were not very high and the HD compressors are designed for things like TRUCK springs so they will not fail at all for lighter duty applications like the G35 front struts.
Or you can call around to someone local and close that can swap the springs over if you bring them down. It's usually a minimal cost, maybe $25 per strut.
I use an OEMTOOLS 27036 for lighter duty cars, it's quick and easy. Just make sure to liberally oil the threads before using, I do use my air wrench to speed up the process.
I've had a much different experience with the pre-assmbled. I've done about 15 cars at this point with Monroe and Kyb Strut assemblies, and only once was anything wrong, luckily it was simply assembled incorrectly so I had to take it apart. Part of why I like the preassembled is also speed. Here in Texas it's 104-108 right now, so I like to get this done quickly in the garage when possible. Now, the Monroes I've found to be a little soft, but the KYB's have been fantastic.
It does sound in this case I will not have my way, I will have to assemble it myself, since I would prefer the KYB shock and would also like to drop the body just a tiny amount (20mm or so) for a slightly tighter look, but still a comfortable ride. This is just a daily so I don't want harsh suspensions. I will add the FCS suspensions are complete trash, they seem to be so you can put springs on and then sell the car. they don't last even a year.
You could always order a set of used OEM springs on eBay. Then mount them to the new front struts.
You only need the fronts since the rear is a separate shock and spring. Just be sure to verify the color coded dot on the spring so you get the correct one.
If you take some brake cleaner, clean off your stock springs, you'll find these large colored dots on 1 or 2 of the coils. This is how Nissan identifies springs, just get the same colored dot configuration and you're good to go.
