Mechanic removed/repaired fuel tank, now fuel sensor needle is whacky
[04' coupe]
Earlier this year I drove over a piece of metal that punched a nickel sized hole in my fuel tank. I thought i was going to go up in flames that or something, but I didn't. FF>> took it to my local shop and he removed it and sent it to get patched. Reinstalled everything and i've been driving it for months now, but this fuel gauge seems to have no idea how much gas is in the tank at any point. It's like it's just guessing, and it's usually wrong.
My mechanic mentioned he would need to drop the fuel tank again to fix it, which i guess i'm in denial about since it cost me about 1100 after it was all said and done. Could it possibly be something that can be worked on from inside the car by any chance? is removing tank the only way to get to the little floaty thing or the sensor?
