Another VK45 but Auto
Hello everyone,
I currently own a 2003 G35 Auto that requires an engine replacement, and I'm eager to undertake a mild project. In previous years, I've successfully completed some moderate engine swaps. For instance, I dropped a 7MGTE into a 1985 Supra, involving the replacement of the oil pan, swapping modules, and addressing various wiring components such as fuel pump resistors and the instrument cluster. I also executed a 1JZ-GTE swap in a 1988 Supra, with similar requirements. The most recent swap I undertook was in a 1993 300Z, where I replaced the NA engine with a VG30DETT, incorporating modifications like ECU tuning by Ashley Power, and upgrading to 615cc injectors.
While I have a fondness for Supras, I considered exploring other options, such as an IS300 with a turbo swap using USDM turbos and injectors. However, I shifted my attention to the G35 and came across the VK45DE, which seems ideal for a stock, all-motor swap. After reviewing a guide, it appears that the VK35DE could potentially bolt into the G35, though an adapter plate and wiring adjustments would be necessary. I noted the mention of a crank sensor spacer and anticipate that the ECM/ECU will require updating or modification, possibly for the key. I am just looking for anyone who has experience with this swap to pick their brain a bit.
If I proceed with this swap, I intend to keep the G35 as an automatic, as I already own a manual car and prefer not to have two manuals. Should this project prove successful, I'm enthusiastic about creating a comprehensive write-up to share my experience and provide valuable information for others contemplating a similar undertaking.
