G35 manual coupe

When putting the car in motion from a standstill

And

Driving in 1st gear with very light throttle input in a straight line

around 5-12 mph (such as when cautiously leaving a parking lot)

It makes a non-constant sporadic tapping noise

The best I can describe the sound is small aluminum rods tapping on a hollow metal object

Almost sounds like a have a wind chime under the car (I checked, there isn't one)

Don't even know where to start to diagnose this

Is the sounds constant or does it just happen for a few seconds and then disappear?

That's what the worn front u-joints that are about to fail sound like on the X models. Wonder if the coupes have rear u-joint issues that might sound the same? Easy and free to inspect your drive shaft for play to see if that's it. I read alot about the clicking rear axle issue but I think that was just one click on accel not repetitive clicks.

I figured out the problem

It was a loose TPMS bouncing around inside a tire

I have aftermarket wheels, so when driving slowly it would bounce around hitting the inside of the wheel , making a "wind chime" type dinging

When getting up to speed it would just rotate around in the tire - producing no sound
