does your moonroof squeak when closed?

this may be kind of a lame post, but that hasn't stopped anybody else....

my moonroof / sunroof (whatever) squeaks when closed. i'm sure it just needs a lube, suffering a bit from the cold weather. wondering if i'm the only one.....

Your not the first to complain, and I'm sure you won't be the last....
Try lubricating the weather seal every month or so, it should help.

I noticed my sunroof now has a slight rattle......hoping it will go away when the temps stay a little more consistent....

Just bring it in the to the dealer they should know the fix for it. I had the same problem and my service manager already knew what it was.

Mine was squeaking, but I found out it was the shade. I jiggled and readjusted the shade and it went away.

Yeah, its the rubber seal that squeeks. It gets really dry easily and squeeks against the glass. Try using some silicone protectant or armor all on it - gets rid of the squeek, for a while anyway.

You need a NON petroleum based rubber lube to apply to the rubber sealer around the inside edge of the s/roof.

I do like 40 of these things a day. Get a clean rag and wipe the rubber seal clean all the way around the piece of glass. Then with another rag (or a clean section of the rag) clean the body around where the rubber seals. Then with another rag spray a little bit of WD40 and wipe it around the body where the rubber seals to. Then use 3M sillicone lubricant to wipe on the runner around the piece of glass.

3m lasts 3 weeks.. Gummi Pflege lasts 2 months, doesnt stink or stain like silicone.

http://www.1z-usa.com/ is the US distributor, lots of places sell it. Including your local BMW shop (for their convertible's seals). But its a bit pricey from BMW.

I got really tired of going to the dealer. They even replaced my sunroof, I guess they got tired of me too.. but it still came back. Now that I'm using Gummi (has a great applicator I might add), its so much less hassle. Also does wonders around the windows.

I heard Gummi is a good product and just ordered some from Drivewerks myself. Reasonably priced from them too.

smells like lemon pledge.. mmmmm. wont choke you out of the car like a healthy application of 3m silicone. P-U! it would take days for the car to air out after the dealer. Just in time for the squeak to come back. I was also always nervous about them dripping silicone from the rag on the interior too. or slathering it on the paint. On one of their applications, the black painted ring around the glass on the sunroof 'got' discolored somehow. I think that helped me get the new sunroof. I was hoping for revised rubber seals, but sadly not..

Even tho I've doubled or tripled my times between application and it only takes 3 mins to apply, its still a pain chasing this rubber squeak.
