Remember horsepower does't make your car accelerate hard torque does.
thats nothing! my grandfather had a 1927 ford model 't' that went from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds (when he drove it off a cliff).

Correct, yet this still doesn't mean that ALL cars can do it.

Lack of experience or requisite skill? When simply letting a clutch out? Pahlease, this isnt rocket science, its simply removing your foot from the pedal at a slow to moderate pace.

Yup, just what I have been getting at this whole time.

lol....i've had my new 05 6mt for about 2 months now and didn't know about this until now. every other stick-shift cars i've owned would always stall if you slowed down to a crawl without pressing on the clutch again. i went home today and tried it myself and WOW!!!! more reason to love this car!!! : )

No problem with the idle speed of the G20, and no problems on the C5 given that I bought it new with 11 miles on the odometer.

Got rid of the c5 3 years ago, so maybe I am mistaken. I could have sworn that I tried this in the C5 and it stalled. But since you seem to remember with 100% clarity I will give it the benefit of the doubt.

But, like I said, I distinctly remember the g20 stalling using the tactics described in this thread.

I'll ask around to some of my gear-head friends in town and see what other cars stall with a simple easing off of the clutch...

Aha!

2 questions though...

1. When you were slowing down were you simply getting off of the gas(without using the brake) or were you stalling while braking?

2. Which vehicles would do this?

in my previous cars, it would stall once i slowed down to 1-2 mph either by coasting or slightly braking. i had a 300zx and honda passport before. but i also noticed the same thing with other cars i've driven. so, i've always thought it was the norm.

actually when i think about it, my mechanic/family friend always had set the idle very low for better gas mileage. perhaps that was the reason why it always stalled.

As for the panty dropping effect, its really not the car. The car just helps women notice the dude in the drivers seat. If you're not a G-Q sort of guy, the car won't help. Trust me, I'm no Tom Cruise, and I've had sport bikes, hot rods, a tricked out Mustang GT, a Porshe, and other types of vehicles labeled as "Panty Droppers", but my friend who drives a beat up old Honda Civic still pulls way more P**** in one evening than I ever have. Hahaha, luckily I don't buy cars and bikes to attract women, I enjoy them because I am a true car and motorcycle enthusiast. Cars do not make the man (unfortunately sometimes). :-)

most cars do this when cold because they hold a higher idle rpm to warm up quicker, as for doing it while warm, good to hear~ =)

I can even apply some brake pressure to get the speed really low while on verge of stalling if I don't feel like stepping on the clutch to stop for like 1 second... I would just keep on rolling really slowly that way.

LOL, either way I guess we both win. A cool car and some pantydroppers (thanks mrb)!
The girl is always dumber...see, all through history, men have tried anything to catch the attention of the ladies...bones through noses, big muscles, fast cars...so a nice car is the next step for some men.

WOMEN however have been somewhat discriminating until now. Now, younger women are impressed with such things as 3 foot aluminum wings and hotrodded 4 cylinders and bad paint jobs. Why? Because they were probably spawned by boys who liked the same things.......hahaha

Yep, just don't force anything. It will slip in and out of the gates with
barely any pressure. as mentioned above, the rev is matched and the
drivetrain load is off the gear you're in... so that's why you can enter/exit
the gates.

If I do this w/my G the car bucks constantly. I can not take off w/o giving it gas. i am told this is normal by my dealer. It is very frustating in bumper to bumper traffic. if I let it roll this way and then give it gas it makes a larger burp almost stalls and then goes, all NTF from dealer.....

Anybody in DC area willing to compare this in their G?

Mark
