I found this article relavant to this topic.

The lies we tell

I can do simple math but without proof it is bs. Let's see some proof (scan the sales contract) and I will eat my words.........

Unless there are special circumstances like this or VPP, I find it hard to believe these prices people say they are being quoted.

Special Circumstance

What is so hard to believe about this? I paid $200 over invoice on a 6mt with all options but nav 2 weeks ago. Only took around 5 emails to get the price, one fax, and 2 hrs to drive and pick it up.

Let me use this same example again.

Let's say you are a business owner and you sell product A. You have 100 product A's on your shelf, but you have 2000 customers that want product A. Would you discount product A? If you would then you don't know how to run a business.....It is all about supply and demand. The more demand and less supply you have the price goes up......no discounts! The G35 6mt is product A. I am not saying that a few people don't get a good deal on this car, but there are just to many bullsh!t posts about what was paid for the car. Like I said before, scan the sales contract (black out any personal info) and post it. I will believe it when I see it. We are not talking about a freaking Hyndai people.

Why are people affraid to show the proof?

I'm 2 hours south of the Delaware Memorial Bridge in MD. wnt1bd on this board in January said that he had (finally) received his new 05 CPE 6MT from a dealer here in MD and had paid $800 over Invoice. I swapped a few private messages and than a few E-mails with him.

On 1/27 I called that dealership and had about a ten minute conversation and struck a deal for a 05 CPE 6MT at Invoice + $500 subject to my wife test-driving any G-35 6MT they might have available. I immediately called three other dealers in MD and VA and allowed as how I was a member of the Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) and that their www site had contacts at each of these dealerships that would quote "special NFCU prices.” I got the sense that they really didn't know what I was talking about. lol The best I could get quoted at these three dealerships was a few hundred below MSRP.

That night my wife test-drove a 6MT and I met wnt1bd and his new G-35 at the dealership. We placed the order that night for Invoice + $500 which is $3043 below MSRP. Fully loaded.

Now, there are three dealerships that did not make a profit off my purchase and one that will when our car arrives. I suspect that nobody is under the impression that Grubbs doesn't make a profit when they sell a vehicle at Invoice and my dealer is making $500 more than that from me - and I will not be paying a $700 shipping fee.

I don't know how often Infiniti updates their www site Inventory lists for each dealership, but it shows 18 05 CPE 6MT's at my dealership and it has not changed for some number of days. I do not know how much in finance charges and other costs it costs a dealership to keep a car on the lot, but that cost to the dealer will be miniscule for my car as presumably we will take the car and give him a check the same day it arrives - and he's had the use of my $500 for two+ months so far.

If there is a notion that local dealers can't get these cars in to keep up with the demand, than I don't see that reflected in the Inventory lists for local dealers in this part of the world. I certainly don't mean to suggest that this isn't the case in other parts of the country.

I did not take possession today as there were a couple of problems. A small (but significant when you expect new car) "dent" on the front bumper corner and a couple of small nicks. They had called me today to let me know about the problems but I had already left the house to go there. The dealer is having a body shop fix the problems. I did sign the paperwork, though, pending this and the work is to be done to my satisfaction or I can void the deal. I did get some non-financial concessions in return. Hope I did the right thing. I'm hoping the problems can be completely fixed.

I'll get one of those disposable digital cameras once I get the car and post photos.

I think I was able to do the pricing this way because of the whoel Million Car sales event Nissan is having. What would be the point in me lying about what I paid? This was a cash deal btw.

It's true, Grubbs makes good deals but like others say it is possible to meet or even beat Grubbs. I did this initially at my local dealer, and after I did I spread the word that anyone can do this and several here have gone ahead with my advice and got anywhere from $500-$700 over the factory invoice. I am willing to help anyone in the MD area get this deal all you do is PM me. I do not work for the dealer, they have just treated me very well so I am doing them this favor in return.

But see, the G isnt a limited product. The dealerships can order all the cars they want. While I recognize the corolations between supply and demand (its better to sell 100 items at $50 per, than 200 items at $25 per), the automotive industry is extremely competitive.

If a $1000 or even $500 difference in price will make or break a sale (and will to many people on this board, especially when you're talking with multiple dealerships at once), they are going to try to get that sale. At the end of the day, its better to sell a car for a $500 profit than it is to sell no cars, trying to get a $1000 profit.

We are not talking about hyundias. I find it funny that after 3 days of posting no one who said they got these $100-$800 over invoice prices can scan the sales contract and show the proof, yet they can go back and forth about how "I paid this." Let see already. Make me eat my words.....I am waiting.

I can only speak for myself. I never claimed to be a master negotiator and I am not here to boast. Far from it. I'm only seeking advice on a high-dollar transaction. My goal is to buy a great car, the right car for me, and drive it for a long time. To be honest, I had been looking at used '04s while also looking at the new cars longingly. I was very happy to find the Internet price I did and I got my financing together quickly and I encountered the problems I have detailed. (I think you can understand why I didn't link to that listing when I started this thread.) My price reflects my discussion with the dealer's GM about the situation I was put in when I had discussions with a sales rep about a car that was priced at a certain level on the Internet only to then be told by the sales manager that they couldn't sell to me at that price.
