How do you feel about the (new?) Mobil 1 Exteneded performance oils?
I think theyre new or at least the commercials might be. But whats up with them, No oil changes for 15K miles with the extended performance sythetic. Supposedly it has more cleaning agents than their regular synth. Even the Mobil 1 Clean is Dino oil and its rated up to 5K or 7.5K depending on which one you pick. Think their reliable enough to put in our G's and go that long b/w oil changes. It also says if you buy their oil filters you dont have to change filters til the oil either. It sounds sweet, but do I believe what they're saying?
Seems to be me they wouldn't market it if they didn't feel confident about their claims. That's a ****load of liability if engines just quit spinning because the oil needed to be changed more frequently than they specified. Smartest thing you could do is use the new extended performance and still change it our every 4K miles, but yeah I think its safe.

Porshce's and other high end vehicles are designed to go longer on oil changes because the design of the car makes it somewhat restrictive to changing the oil easily. What they end up doing is use a larger oil pan which obviously hold more oil (I think my friend's boxster took about 12 qts or so you will get more longevity out of the oil. My concern is the oil filter!! Regular oil filters aren't designed to go that long without being changed! I would not use a regular filter and wait 15K to change my oil that's for sure!

Synthetic oil can last a long time no doubt about that. I know a chemist who works in an oil refinery. Syn oil is a night a day difference compared to regular oil. The problem occurs with the oil filter. You can buy better oil filters, which is a good idea if your planning on not changing it for awhile. When to change it? Check the oil once in a while and see how dirty it is.

I've seen charts from Blackstone labs of Mobil one and Amsoil being fine in the car until 18k miles, believe it or not, and they were all sportscars. But that is with a filter swap in between. Synthetic oil is that good. I've tested oil in my bikes and cars for a while now, and learned that good quality synth is awesome, and it saves $. I changed my oil in my cars every 12-15k now, with a filter swap in between, verified this with Blackstone as well. On my bikes, I only change the oil once a year with the filter swap in the middle. Changing your oil every 3k miles is just burning $ and time. get the lab results!
