Injen CAI vs. Z-tube/JWT Pop Charger
Thanks to those people who actually put down some actual ideas such as the aftermarket plenum and plenum spacer.
I'm not trying to be unrealistic and add 200hp to the wheels and spend $200. I was just trying to get people to tell me their opinion of a good mod with decent gains.
I'm definitely going to get the Injen sticker though and put it on my driver side quarter window...the increased aerodcynamics and the added 12hp is worth the $4.
Now all i need to do is research what a plenum is lol...

Just my 2 cents.....
Don't worry too much about the stuff that "looks better". Unless you plan on driving around with your hood off, it really shouldn't matter.
Performance is most important to me......how the engine looks it way down the list.
For 5-10 minutes, I'll look at the engine when I wash and re-charge my K&N air filter. Then, I'll close the hood. That how much I plan on opening my hood.
When most people look at your car, they are not going to ask you to pop open the hood.
Go for function, not looks (at least as far as stuff UNDER the hood goes).

A few Nismo stickers will add about 10-12 hp.
In my opinion, you would be better off starting with mods to make your car handle / look better.
Wheels/tires, springs, shocks, sways.
It is very hard to squeeze much more power out of the VQ with bolt on mods.
Unless.....you bolt on a super charger or turbo....

goldfinger,
I started with the Injen CAI and then I switched to the Z-tube/K&N filter. The Injen looked and sounded great but I found myself worried about hydrolock every time a I drove in heavy rain. Granted, I was probably being paranoid since you literally have to submerge the cone filter in standing water to cause hydrolock, but still the worry was there. Some people added the AEM bypass to their Injens for extra piece of mind. There were some people that had issues with the Injen rubbing the A/C lines, although I did not have this issue.
The Z-tube/K&N filter combo uses the stock air box which, honestly, is hard to improve on. I found this set-up to have a more subtle sound. This is a stealthier mod as well, since the Z-tube looks very similar to the stock intake tube and the K&N is hidden in the air box. I don't have that nagging worry about hydrolock anymore. Also, this is an easier install than the Injen.
I agree with what others have said about power gains. They are negligable with just a CAI. Unfortunately if you really want to see power gains you will have to spend more then a couple of hundred bucks.
