Buying a 03 Coupe but not Sure

I am lookng to buy a G35 coupe 6MT, at first I didn't think it mattered if I bought an 03 or 04, since those were the years I was looking for. I have been looking through this forum and am not happy with what I am reading.

I am close to buying an 2003 titled in 03/03, so I assume it is an 03 not and 03.5. It is black on black, fully loaded with every option that was available and it only has 5500 miles on it, this is legit, the guy that owns it didn't drive it much and we have agreed to 28,000. I have read a lot of thread about the 03 and recalls and problems people have had with them.

What do you all think? Any advice would be appreaciated.

Thanks

In general, the 03's are just fine. If you are happy with the price, I say go ahead with the purchase. You prob can get an '04 for that price (more miles).

I agree with not being able to get an 04 for that price, I am willing to pay more for a 04, but I looked and everyone is way over 30, it seem like it is better to buy a new one but I don't like how cars depreciate as soon as you roll off the lot

First year production of a car... hmm... sounds like a bad idea to me.

Have you tried cars.com, or autotrader.com?

I see lots of listings for '04 coupes, under $30k (and that's just asking price).

A fully loaded...Nav everything for 28k...with only 5k plus miles is not a bad deal....Fully loaded 04s are still selling for 35 used. I say go for it.

I'd go for it, it would still be under the powertrain warranty and in the last year of its basic warranty....I could be wrong though. But thats basically still a new car with those many miles and that price is good.

I have read a lot of thread about the 03 and recalls and problems people have had with them.
I'm not aware of any recalls, and most of the problems seem to be relatively minor (rattles, etc.). While the quality of the car isn't anything to knock your socks off, it isn't horrible either. Certainly not enough to prevent you from buying the car if you like everything else about the car.

civic4982,
I couldn't disagree with you more. Nissan/Infiniti knows how to launch a product pretty well. And as the G is made offshore, meaning it's not made at a transplant, then I feel even MORE confidence that buying the 1st model year isn't a bad idea.

Or were you suggesting that the price is TOO high?

I'm not speaking out of my a*s here. I work in the automotive industry. There are hundreds of engineering changes to the various vehicles EACH production year that you, the consumer, will not notice or even be made aware of. The reason why you see little changes in the later years in the life of a program is because the OEM's figure they'll make the improvements in the next version (i.e., it's almost a waste to do it in the last year of production) and yes, also because issues have been resolved by then.

adesai,
So...no worries. The G is a great car! Plus, you've got a warranty, but do haggle him on the price a little!

I say go for it! I was in the same situation and found a great deal on an 03 and pulled the trigger. I couldn't be happier! Although I am a little jealous, considering I paid $900 more than your price for a loaded 03 6MT with 3 times more miles (16000)...

Thanks to everyone that posted a reply! I am a proud new owner of a 03 G and I am waiting for it to be delivered early next week. I can't wait.

I did alot of thinking and I do have at the minimum 2 years left on the warranty. I called Infiniti about this particular car and said it had one recall which was fixed, carfax was clean and I figued if I can at the worst case scenario is sell it, which I doubt since I have had my eyes on this ride for soo much time.

Does anyone know when the redesign is scheduled for? I love the way it looks and wouldn't change it.

Thanks Again

Good Deal. I have ann '03 6MT No problems. You may not like the console - I didn't. The '03 console is a 350Z transplant and IMO doesn't go with the car. You may like it however. I bought an 03.5, 04 console from Grubbs. An easy install. You'll Love the car.
