6MT or Auto New 05 or Used 03???

Ok, I am faced with a really tough decision. I am looking to purchase a blue G. I finally found one that is only 300 miles from my house. Its a 2003 MT6 with 20K miles. He was asking for 28900 and we decided on 27000 on it. After a week of research, I realized that he didn't have the aero kit and only the rear spoiler, didn't have XM, which is something I want. Most importantly, the tires have 20000 miles on it, which will cost me about 900 to replace. So the total cost would be

27000 for car
700 front, rear, splash guard. Front lip
400 XM radio
900 tires
200 fix paint on front bumper
_______
29,200
2131 Tax @ 7.3%
_______
31331 Still with 18 HP than 05

Since, I am in the military I am able to get the 05 G at Grubbs at invoice. So with the 05 blue and black interior, 6MT, aero kit, XM with 19in wheels for about 34000K. The only bad thing is its 8 hours away, and it takes 8 weeks to get it.

So
34000 for the car
2482 tax at 7.3%
______
36,482 with brand new car.

I guess if I pick the 05 option, should I get a manual or auto? And why? I do understand simple physic about power loss with the auto. I had a prelude that had a terrible auto and ok manual. So I am wondering if the G had any problem with either the auto or the manual.

Thanks for your input.

Automatic G35 is still very quick. I decided to go with a automatic G35 because I have a Porsche and a Corvette in manual, and I hate having all my cars (besides an SUV) all manual. I'm very impressed with the automatic, it shifts nice and smooth, and its very quick. The Manumatic manual shift mode is great too. There are times when I miss having a clutch under my foot, but I am still happy I went with the Auto.

About the purchase, I would deffinetly either go new.

There is no question: Go new. For that small of a difference in price, you shouldn't even have to think about it.

Go test drive an auto and a manual to see which one you like better. I was dead set on a manual (I was always a manual tranny driver) until I drove the 5at, and from then on I knew that auto was the way to go.

I guess 5K is not that much, only 15% of the total new car value. I usually pay my car off in 2.5 years or less. With the 05, I may have to pay on it for 3.5 yearish. Debt scares me. =)

15 years ago, I would have agreed wkith accordfreak... I thought auto drivers were morons...

But driving an MT in traffic sucks.... the G's 5AT is a great solution, and I love it.
I use Manumatic when I want, and it is all I need. When in traffic I can sit back.

It really depends on your location, driving habits, needs, etc
I think you'd find either very nice in the G

as far as the 03 vs the 05... no question, get the 05

Thanks for your inputs. I test drove the 03 G auto vs manual, there was a signficant difference between the two. Maybe it was psychological, since I am used to manual. But the sale rep at Grubbs said they made significant improvements on the 05 autos. I guess it is true. I'll test drive a few just to make sure.

Does anyone know the 1/4 times between the auto and manual???

Always, always go with the newer model '05 even if its an auto. Your paying that much for a car spend a little more and get the one thats up to date. The auto is faster than the MT anyways, hehe. Holla Back

Look, an '05 is the only way to go. there are a lot of fit and finish differences. ABSOLUTELY GET AN '05. I wish we would have gotten an '05.

As far as MT or AT, it depends on what you want the car for. if you want a sports car, get the MT. But if you want a daily driver and have to deal with traffic, get an AT. The AT isn't as sluggish as people will make you believe. It definately doesn't have the power loss of those prelude (I know, I have a stick on mine and driven some friends AT's). Let's face it, the AT MT battle comes down to one thing. What do you really want the car for? These are marketed for completely different people. If you fly fighter planes, get the MT, if you fly stealth bombers buy the AT. Enough analogies.

I would go for the 05 no questions asked. The difference you are paying up front will come back to you when you sell or trade the car in, and besides you will have exactly what you want and a new car to boot.

Sounds good. Looks like I am going for the 05...

I really want the blue and still really like the red. The blue takes 9 weeks to order and the red is ready for pickup tomorrow. My loan is ready, however, the offer expires may 19. I am sure I won't have a problem getting another one, just more paper work.

I can't wait, but should I wait?

You get a better interest rate on a new car too.....the only thing that sux is that you have to wait for 2 months, they are screwing you over there.

Wait and get what you want. I bought an 05 AT ( really wanted the 6mt but they were not out yet.) 2 months later traded in car for 6 speed and love it.
