I just passed 1300 miles on my gauge and was wondering how strongly do you recommend an oil change now or just wait till my first scheduled oil change at 3700 miles. I need some advice please from you experienced G coupe drivers in the world. Thankyou

 

Not a coupe driver, but I plan on doing my oil changes at 3000 regardless of the manual.

I'm a low miles driver (because of where I live) so I may be doing them quarterly rather than based on mileage - we'll have to wait and see.

lots of folks will tell you to change it earlier - don't know if that provides any additional protection unless you count piece of mind.

 

I did my first change at 1500 and plan to change every 3k even though i do all highway driving. At 5k i will switch over to mobil one synthetic and still change at 3k intervels. Oil is cheap engines are expensive.

 

Should I drive 2 hours to atlanta just to get an oil change at infiniti or should i go over to Nissan where i live to change it, what do you recommend?

I go to Regal Nissan for mine.

They are right down the street from my house and they usually have a special for around $15.95 - $19.95.

Roswell Infiniti charges $29.95 for the exact same oil change.

 

I did my first change at 3750. Any number you see in a manual is extremely conservative. Im thinking about switching to synthetic for my next oil change, but I hear it is not reccomended..

 

I changeg mine at 1300 and now I stick to 3700 mile changes or whatever the book says. 700 more mile will not hurt a thing.

 

benbo, I did a change at 1500. I would recommend it. Don't drive 2 hrs to Infiniti for the oil change though.

GeeWilikers, what is your driving situation? If you commute daily but the commute is only a couple miles, that is considered 'harsh' conditions because the oil does not heat up long enough to evaporate water that can collect in it. 3 month intervals would be fine for oil changes though. Dino oil should last 5000 miles but somehow, everyone jumped on the 3000 mile bandwagon. With synthetics, you may not have to change the oil until 7k miles. Checking the color and level of your oil is a good indicator of its health.

heeb, most people say not to switch to synthetic until 7 or 10k miles.

 

The guys who baby their cars do it at 500, 1000, 3000, and then every 3000. I just changed mine at a little over 1000 and plan on doing it again at 3000. I'm using synthetic and chaning it every 3000 is overkill, but like someone else said "oil is cheap, engines are expensive." I'd also like to say that the G's oil change is definately cheaper than the Camaros was! I get synthetic for the G cheaper than the Camaro with standard oil. That 5.7L V8 sure did need a lot of oil...

I don't know if 500 is mandatory, but I'd change it after the break in is done at least to get rid of all those shavings that are supposedly created during the break in period. Oh, and I wouldnt go to the dealer for an oil change unless you really wanted to...

EDIT: I heard the same thing about waiting to switch to synthetics, but the oil change guy brought up a good point. There are MANY cars that come from the factory these days with synthetics. My camaro SS did, and I think Mercedes and others do as well. I went ahead and switched to synthetic after 1000 miles... I have heard that you should not switch back and forth between regular and synthetic though...

 

True, but changing it a intervals less than 3000 is a waste of resources, money, and time.

 

Oil can really last until about 5,000 miles.

I had a teacher who worked in the industry and they tested regular oil until about 5,000 as still being good.

So you really won't have a problem if you go until even 5 K.

But if you're breaking it in and you're at 3K and it makes you feel better, than change it. But the newer engines and newer formulas for oil do last longer than the ol' "every 3,000 miles".

 

I would definitely recommend changing it at least once before the first scheduled interval (3750mi). I changed mine at 1200 and 3500mi but will wait until I'm past 10k to switch to syn.

 

well that depends. City miles? Short trips? You'll have fuel dilution from always running rich. And our filtration is not the best. I think if youre going to deviate from schedule 1, syn or mineral, you should Blackstone once to make sure its OK. Blackstones are cheap compared to engines too. I think most people could easily go to 5000, but if youre standing there next to the service manager as they tow the car in, "I read it on the internet" isnt going to fly.

Also, if you run to 5K, watch your consumption after 4K.
