Smell when shifting at high rpm

Smell when shifting at high rpm
Ever since I bought the car, I get a burning type of smell when shifting at 5-5.5K. I wrote about it last year and most people said it is the paint and it just has to burn out. Well, 13 months later and 10.000 miles, it is still the same thing. Should I worry about it? The dealer has not been helpful at all.

No I think its normal when a car has been run at high rpms...but I usually get that smell when rippin on my car at high rpms...higher than what you said. But if I were you, I wouldn't make that rpm range your constant shifitng rpm (I doubt you do this anyways)....but most cars that the driver works the engine good, end up with what I call: "been hard workin" scent to em, usually it's the clutch.
I'd be worried if you smell that after shifiting at 3krpm on a normal drive.

At that range I mostly power shift but the smell that comes out is more like the smell of burning coolant or oil. I also sensed the smell coming out from the tires after they get warm and was wondering if that could be the case.
I don't normally shift at 5K or so but every time I get up there for a spiritted driving, you get the smell which has just concerned it. All your suggestions are right on the money as usual.
