Infiniti Extended Warranty
Infiniti Extended Warranty
Have any of you bought the Elite Extended warranty from Infiniti? How much did you guys pay? Can you actually negotiate the price or is it pretty much set so the dealer can make some money off you, after you think you got a good deal on the car.
didnt get any.
i felt that it's pointless.
if you are going to do something onto your car, it's definately not worth it.
well even if you dont mod. it, i think it's not worth it.
personally, i purchased those warranties before for other stuffs (not only cars but other small stuffs like computers, etc) but then...i never used it.

Yeah i usually dont go in for the extended warranty on most things i buy, but when it comes to cars, i am glad ive had it on the previous cars in my family. My mom's 97 civic especially gave her a lot of problems that easily ended up about 1500$ more than what we paid for the extended warranty. My mustang had a shorter extended warranty but it was more reliable than the civic
So when we got the New Jetta a few months ago we went in for the extended coverage. I know you can get extended warranty from other places also, like credit union, so I just wanted to see how much inifiniti coverage cost for comparison. It seems like 1300~1400 should be reasonable. That 2000$ figure is just ridiculous, looks like they raped you on that one. Thanks for the help!

My wife is a programmer consultant and worked for over a year for a large insurance company writting software that determined pricing for extended car warranties. The bottom line is something call the reserve. This is the amount of money the insurance company holds out of the sales of the warranty to pay out claims. On a typical warranty of $1500 the reserve is somewhere around $250. The rest goes to commisions and profit.
Get it if you want, just realize that you will probably waste the money.

If you trust your car, then you don't need an extended warranty plan. Frankly, I don't trust this car. I've already had a window motor go out and I expect other things to eventually go caput. The $1300 was worth it for this car due to it being expensive to fix.
BTW, my buddy who owns an X5 had all 4 windows go out on his BMW over time (all after the regular warranty ended). Luckily he had an extended warranty and paid a total of $200 ($50 deductable). He saw the invoice on one of the motor replacements and it would have cost him about $500 per window. Worthy investment for him.

marchesano: The 1050$ you paid for, what is the term/mileage/deductible?
Got the 7/100K for less than I thought possible. It was wrapped up in a trade involving two dealerships so it's kinda hard to explain how it worked out, but it cost me around $1K.
A lot can be said about the extended warranties. I tend to buy them mainly because I'm military and move around a lot. When dealers try to sell me on their service, I tell tham I don't really concern myself with a particular service department because it's likely I won't use one for more than a year or two before I'm on to the next one. It's hard to establish a relationship with a new service department every couple of years.
One thing I've found is that when a dealers sees that you coughed up the dough to protect your car past the original manufacturer's warranty, they're usually more receptive to covering things when you want them repaired. It has greased the skids for me more than once.
For $1K on a 30K+ deal - I figured it was worth the cost. I kept my last car 8 years.
