What does it mean when you hardwire the V1?
My V1 is mounted at the top of the windshield directly left of the mirror. The power wire is tucked up under the headliner at the top of the windshield and then it runs inside the left A-pillar and then under the instrument panel and is wired into the power for the cigarette lighter, so the power wire it totally concealed and there is nothing plugged into the cigarette lighter socket. Looks vastly better and cleaner and is not all that difficult to do. No wire hanging down in the way. Some guys apparently tie the power wire into the wiring for the Homelink mirror instead.
Basically it means that power is not a choice as it is with the cig lighter plug thingy. Hardwired means there will always be power there from another source you have tapped into.
I hardwired mine for a couple of reasons......the suction cups on the windshield would let go every once in a while and they did leave little suction rings on the glass.....also the power cord was laying across the dash down the the cig lighter....not too cool....since then i have discovered another good reason......before i could not reach the radar detector and used the remote to silence the bugger when it went crazy.....no big deal, but still had to look down the see what i was doing.....now that the radar detector is in a "heads up" position (face level).......much easier to control (volume, mode, on/off) and safer
....no need for the remote!
check this thread and there are some pics of my car and a little write up on how to get power from the mirror.......i think it is a little easier install this way, but either way will look better IMO
