Got SCAMMED by Competetion Infiniti!
Got SCAMMED by Competetion Infiniti!
This is a warning for anyone buying an Infiniti in the Long Island Area. The dealer is Competition Infiniti of Smithtown, NY.
Here is my story.
I found a used G35 on autotrader and drove 120 miles from CT to go see the car. The car had a few knicks and scratches but was in good condition. I purchased the 2004 G35 coupe from them on June 7th. Thinking that this was a professional dealer, I had them put on a full aero kit before delivery. Once the car was finished it was delivered to me in Connecticut. On delivery I noticed that the front mud guard was hanging off the car. The sales guy that delivered the car told me that my local dealer would fix it under warranty and then procceded to jump in my trade-in and drive off.
Upon further inspection I noticed that the front chin they put on had 2 huge gouges and mutiple scratches, all the body pieces they put on did not fit the car, when I opened the trunk it sounded like sand pouring through the trunk cavity from leftover metal shavings, one of the window controls didn't work, there was a heavy vibration in the plastic around the rear side window, and to top it off the interior of the car was filthy. This is not how a newly purchased car should be delivered. This dealership clearly does not care about it's customers!
So, I went to my local dealer and they would not do any of the work because infiniti cannot warranty workmanship between their dealers. I called Competetion Infiniti and had to argue with them a few days and send the pictures before they agreed to fix THEIR mistakes. They arranged for my car to be picked up and fixed but it took them almost 2 weeks to do this. Once they came an got my car, drove it back to Long Island, had it for a day fixing it and drove it back (an extra 150 miles on my car). As compensation they said that they gave the car a $300 detail which made my car look worse than it originally was. I got the car back on the morning of Friday, June 23rd. Again I started to look over the car and the driver jumped in the rental and drove off.
This time the body pieces were attached to the car with a 1/4" bead of silicone(silicone all over the car), the front chin spoiler still had the gauges and the black rubber trim was now partially painted, the vibration was still their and now my window whistles once I hit 60MPH.
Everytime they had the car it came back with new scratches, dings and gouges. When I ask what had happened they tell me that it's a used car. I now have spider cracks in the paint where they attached a body piece in the rear end (looks like its from stress), a dent in the passanger door and a new gouge across my glovebox. The detail job was horrible!!
So once again I called and argued with everyone all the way up to the gereral manager. After a day of phone calls and being bounced to different people it came down to either I drive the car back 120 miles and let them fix it AGAIN or nothing at all!!! I've had the car less than 30 days and they won't let me swap for an 05. I'm so sick of this car and it problems caused by Competition Infiniti.
So the same day I drive the car back to Long Island (120miles) to have it fixed once again. I went over the car with the sales manager Chris and he felt that this was not a big deal. That I should be happy with my experience of buying a car from their dealership. And as compensation for missed work, 500+miles on my car, my time, and stress...a car starter! Or they offered me an oil change. I live 120miles away! I told him no way. They won't let me swap cars until I have the title that's not processed yet, then I get charged sales tax twice. They won't take money of the car or add rims for my compensation. It looks like I'll just get a car that needs paint because of their incompetence.
In conclusion these guys only care about the bottom line. They don't care about the customer just on the volume of cars they sell. There is no quality control or workmanship. They don't care!!!
The car is being delivered today. I talked to the general manager Mark and was told that I will recieve no compensation and will not be allowed to swap the car for an 05. Basically told be to get a lawyer...
I will post the results for anyone who cares...

Get a lawyer and see what happens. Would any "Lemon" laws come into consideration for this? Multiple trips to fix something that ultimately is STILL not corrected. Send a letter to "Better Business Bureau of NY".
I'm talking to multiple lawyers. I think I can get the "lemon" law envoked.
On delivery I noticed that some of the body pieces weren't fitting correctly and the salesman that drove it to me stated that my local dealer would take care of it. If I only knew I would have never taken delivery...

man, that sounds horrible. but word of advice to ALL buyers who will have their car delivered to them, DON'T TAKE POSSESSION OF THE CAR IF IT'S DAMAGED, THE WRONG CAR, ETC!!! it will save you tons of headaches since the dealer will still have the car. sadly, there are too many stories like this one.

dam n...i bought my car from those guys. I get my car service there as well. I haven't have any problems yet. I'm scheduled for a 7500 service and a window replacement. I hope I receive my car back in its original condition. You should definitely see what a lawyer could do. I hope things turn out good.

Sounds like a very bad experience, but not anything that you'll be able to cover under the Lemon Law. A tough lesson learned for sure, and this dealer sounds like they knew waht they were doing.
A few questions -
1 - you bought in NY, yes?
2 - registered NY or CT?
3 - how many miles on the car?
4 - what warranty obligations were made WRT to the car?
Any pictures of the damages you can share?

over the years I've learned to never take a salesmans word for anything.. NOTHING. if you leave with anything not addressed, you MUST have a 'we owe' signed by the manager. If I was taking delivery of the car from 120 miles away, the 'we owe' sheet would have to be on the fax machine before anyone drives off. If its not in the settlement paperwork AND signed by a semi-permanent employee, your chances of getting anything done are very very slim. And I mean even from the best dealerships with the best service departments.. any brand car. Its just something salespeople do. The only way they will even 'remember' what they promised is something in wrting. Even then it can be a hassle once the 'taillights hit the street'.
Just got the car back. Scratches on the front lip are still there and a lovely bead of silicone is holding on the rear body piece.
I have a meeting with a consumer lawyer on Thursday morning. Will find out my options at that point. Think I'm screwed w/the lemon law but might be able to bring them to small claims court for the bad Aero kit and extra milage on my car.
Bought in NY, Registered in CT, 27K, and 100k warranty. Will post all my pics soon...

Sorry to hear about your troubles. That sucks! But I have to ask, don't you have to sign papers when they drop of your car? I would never sign the papers until after the inspection. And like they say, get everything in writing. If he says the other dealers will fix it, then have him write it on the paper you sign and get a copy. And don't give him the keys to your trade-in or the loaner until you are satisfy. I don't see how the guy can just drive off if you didn't give him the keys first. I'm not ragging on you, just trying to help others avoid this mess from happening to them.
I've learned my lesson.
I inspected the car before they put on the aero kit. It was fine. I really expected the dealership to be professional. It was my fault for signing the papers before going over the car. If anything, I hope my experience will help others avoid getting scammed by big business...
