Motor Oil and Auto Tranny Oil

Hey dudes and dudettes, has anyone checked out to see what's the best motor oil and auto tranny oil for our Gs? I stopped by the store today and Amsoil (which I understand is a great oil) makes stuff for both and I'm wondering if it's worth it on the next change (for both). I'm currently using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic.

Also, the Infiniti manual says not to put in "additives such as fuel injector cleaners, octance boosters, yada yada yada" - do these really hurt our cars? I was tempted to buy the Redline Fuel System Cleaner but wanted to see if anyone had experience with this. And has anyone tried Lube Control's Fuel Power (which is suppose to lubricate and increase MPG, a ton of people swear by it on BobIsTheOilGuy.com).

Ok, I'll stop with the questions now...

do it!
I have switched to Amsoil fluids as well. good stuff!

as for the fuel thing? ditch octane boosters, use straight up race gas and kill your O2 sensors

I've also been using BiTron, good stuff...a few old school drag racers, I know, uses them day-in & day-out.

I've never heard of BiTron, what does it do?

Don't mess with the auto tranny fluid. You can't beat the Nissan synthetic from the factory, and Nissan checks all failures for the correct oil.
No Nissan JMatic -- no warranty.

Motul is rumoured to be real good. I'm thinking of that for the engine and rear.

Ah, I didn't realize that the tranny fluid was already synthetic.

I've never heard of a nissan matic-j atf equiv (this is not a dexron ii/iii or mercron compatible atf fluid) - certainly not listed on amsoils "universal" transmission fluid as a supported fluid type either. mobil 1 atf is not matic-j formulated either (mobil 1 is just another dexron ii/iii formulated fluid). i have both atfs in my garage right now for my other cars, no where is matic-j listed, and i'd be surprised if it was because nissan hasn't released matic-j specs to anyone.

whatever engine oil you use, i would choose a thick grade 10w30 or 10w40. engine wear seems lowest with this engine using thicker grade oils. 10w40 is graded ok to use for DRIVING temps above 0F (which for me means year round, i don't know where you live).

for the rear differential i would like to suggest redline gear lube. the power steering fluid in a g35 coupe is a dexron ii/iii fluid, so there amsoil atf or mobil 1 atf would be fine.

I don't think I have a rear diff, I have a 03 Auto, without the tire perf. pack.

So it sounds like any ATF Dex III auto tranny fluid is ok?

Do NOT put in any tranny fluid. If you do not use the Nissan J-Matic fluid, you WILL VOID the warranty. Its a great tranny but very sensitive to the correct fluid. The J-matic is a synthetic oil so you are getting the best.

Noo man, you do have a differential, all Rear wheel drive cars do, it just may not be a limited slip differential, or popularly coined as the LSD. If I were you, I would avoid using anything other than the J-Matic fluid. Sure other fluids will work, but sometimes those other synthetics have different temperature ratings, meaning the transmission will begin to slip gears if the fluid is not warmed up properly. I know because this happened in my 02 Sentra and in my cousin's Maxima. And as others said, if you take it to Infiniti, they will not cover any issues with the tranny if you didnt fill up with J-matic fluid.

And with the Differential fluid, you can use whatever they offer at the dealership, or something a little thicker such as Redline MT-90.

good luck.

i appears or sounds like other lubricant treatments out there. it differs from them because it's ionic bond to metals to reduce heat and friction. the "other" guys use friction modifiers that are solid forming and those are whats bad for your engine. things like teflon and molybdenum that chuck up in your piston rings. given that most synthetics already have molybdenum, just using cheapy oil and using bitron will make enhance the oils lubrication, exceding synthetic oils characteristics in engine protection.

Only at your infiniti or nissan dealers.

MT-90 is API GL-4, which is really meant for the tranny, not the diff, as the diff requires GL-5. GL-5 in the tranny will kill the synchros. Redline 75W-90 is a better choice for the diff, as it's GL-5. Royal Purple Max-Gear is also a good choice for both, as it's GL-4 and GL-5 certified, and noncorrosive to synchros.

Here are the recommended fluids from the FSM:
