Motor Oil and Auto Tranny Oil
Hey dudes and dudettes, has anyone checked out to see what's the best motor oil and auto tranny oil for our Gs? I stopped by the store today and Amsoil (which I understand is a great oil) makes stuff for both and I'm wondering if it's worth it on the next change (for both). I'm currently using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic.
Also, the Infiniti manual says not to put in "additives such as fuel injector cleaners, octance boosters, yada yada yada" - do these really hurt our cars? I was tempted to buy the Redline Fuel System Cleaner but wanted to see if anyone had experience with this. And has anyone tried Lube Control's Fuel Power (which is suppose to lubricate and increase MPG, a ton of people swear by it on BobIsTheOilGuy.com).
Ok, I'll stop with the questions now...

do it!
I have switched to Amsoil fluids as well. good stuff!
as for the fuel thing? ditch octane boosters, use straight up race gas and kill your O2 sensors
I've also been using BiTron, good stuff...a few old school drag racers, I know, uses them day-in & day-out.

Don't mess with the auto tranny fluid. You can't beat the Nissan synthetic from the factory, and Nissan checks all failures for the correct oil.
No Nissan JMatic -- no warranty.
Motul is rumoured to be real good. I'm thinking of that for the engine and rear.

I've never heard of a nissan matic-j atf equiv (this is not a dexron ii/iii or mercron compatible atf fluid) - certainly not listed on amsoils "universal" transmission fluid as a supported fluid type either. mobil 1 atf is not matic-j formulated either (mobil 1 is just another dexron ii/iii formulated fluid). i have both atfs in my garage right now for my other cars, no where is matic-j listed, and i'd be surprised if it was because nissan hasn't released matic-j specs to anyone.
whatever engine oil you use, i would choose a thick grade 10w30 or 10w40. engine wear seems lowest with this engine using thicker grade oils. 10w40 is graded ok to use for DRIVING temps above 0F (which for me means year round, i don't know where you live).
for the rear differential i would like to suggest redline gear lube. the power steering fluid in a g35 coupe is a dexron ii/iii fluid, so there amsoil atf or mobil 1 atf would be fine.

So it sounds like any ATF Dex III auto tranny fluid is ok?
Do NOT put in any tranny fluid. If you do not use the Nissan J-Matic fluid, you WILL VOID the warranty. Its a great tranny but very sensitive to the correct fluid. The J-matic is a synthetic oil so you are getting the best.

And with the Differential fluid, you can use whatever they offer at the dealership, or something a little thicker such as Redline MT-90.
good luck.
