Rear Brake Pads Worn Out in 5,000 Miles?!

I made past purchases from Stillen racing of a CAI and Muffler so I'm now on their mailing list.

Today, I received an e-mail saying that the 350Z and the G35 coupe have been reporting worn out rear brake pads in as little as 5,000 miles. Naturally, they are offering better than OEM brake pads currently. I'd like to think this isn't true but thought I'd alert you guys about the potential and the need to watch the pads.
Ken

OK unless you drive around with your E-Brake on and foot on the brake I highly doubt that pads are gonna wear out in 5k miles not to mention the fact that it would have been all over the forum already and there would have had to be some kind of recall done.

Now on a serious note I've been meaning to ask the forum, How much do a set of these bad a$$ BREMBO pads cost anyway?

and maybe a silly question, but who cares if they wear out in 5K? aren't they replaced by warranty upto 48mo/48K mi anyway? i haven't read line by line the warranty, but i would think that it would be covered.... sure, its annoying as heck. now if they aren't covered, then LAME!

I have not read the warranty either, however on every other car I have ever seen, brake pads are like tires, wear items and therefore replacement is on your nickel.
However if that # is anywhere near true, then something is seriously amiss. Usualy one gets 2-3 sets of front brakes to 1 rear. The whole G brake wear thing is starting to seem a little out of hand.

Currently driving 93 RX-7 TT. Very seriously considering selling the RX for a G-35 coupe.

On the warranty coverage bro, yes ware-out items are our responsibility unless it's abnormal ware and tear caused by a faulty component.
I don't think there are that many G's with the rear brakes worn out that quickly and the ones that do will have a faulty adjustment, hanging e-brake, or bad calipers. That's gotta be warranty to my mind.
The fronts are another story: It's been said it's normal to get maybe 15 - 20k out of the OEM's due to the softness of the friction material, coupled with more aggressive driving. Aftermarket pads will no doubt do much better.
Good luck with your trade up from the TT to a G.

Wait when did this thing get out of hand? Are people really having a problem with the brakes at 5k miles? I have 5k now and they seem fine. Plus I havent heard of anything and seeing as how people on this forum including myself tend to report every little detail that might possible be wrong with the car I thought I would have cought the whole brake thing. So basically are the brakes wearing otu fast or aren't they?

There have been several reports of fronts being fried in 15 -20k. The amazing quantity of dust makes that easy to believe to me. I thought I was driving a dust factory and I don't brake all that much, highway miles.

Currently driving 93 RX-7 TT. Very seriously considering selling the RX for a G-35 coupe.

I HIGHLY doubt anyone's burning through their pads in 5000 miles unless they skipped break-in and slam on the brakes every time they come to a stop.

Most likely a marketing scheme to get people to buy their "superior" brake pads...should get at least 15K out of the front and I'd assume 20-25K at least from the rear...but driving styles do differ from person to person obviously.

Yeah mine squeak too @ 6k...seems to be normal with the Brembos. Performance is still excellent though.
