Lets talk 05 Alignment / Tire Wear / Tire Life
doesnt cover from wear
only flats and rim damage.
only flats and rim damage.
Regarding tire replacement, based on Tire Rack Pricing there are several choices for a 245/40/19 that are less than $300, including the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 ($298), Dunlop SP Sport 9000 ($262), Dunlop SP Sport Maxx ($258), and the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position ($293).
If I lost a tire and a wheel due to a pothole I believe my insurance will cover it under comprehensive (or collision). If get an unfixable flat I believe I'm on my own though. When I replace the Bridgestones I'll probably a) get a different brand tires and b) buy the road hazzard warranty b/c I've had to replace 2 tires on other cars in the past few years.
320 sounds like a dealer price, stock 19" tires are only $270, only heh, and $50 to mount a tire is a rip off. But I have 23k miles on my stock 19" rims and tires right now; the tread is worn, but still safe for another few K miles.
I've got the OEM 19"s as well. With 6k miles so far, the tires still look have plenty of tread left. Since I only drive aggressively only about 20% of the time, I'm hoping I'll get over 15k miles with the stock RE050As. My wife's car came stock with Bridgestone Turanza ER33 with a 140 treadwear rating. She almost never drives aggressively and got about 40k miles out of her set of tires. I know the construction is different between our tires and power delivery is more on the G, but I would think with conservative driving, you could get pretty decent mileage out of the RE050As. Of course it wouldn't be much fun.
For replacements, I plan to go with BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW2s. They're rated pretty highly for the price on Tirerack and cost less than the other tires for our cars. I actually plan to go wider on the front, to 245/35YR19, and stay with the stock size in the rear. $223 for the fronts and $241 for the rears, it should be a decent savings. With the 300 treadwear rating, it should last longer too.
