I lose 1 quart per oil change...I have my Nav tell me at 1500 miles that I need to change the oil so I can add a quart, then reset for 1500 again for the actual change...on-going problem.
Congrats Andy. I'm just starting my ordeal. 3rd time taking my car in (now at 8000 miles). Valve train rattle after about every 2500 miles or so (after oil changes).
Checked the oil.. looked low.. very low. Took it in yesterday because of the valve train rattle. Get this.. the dealer told me that the oil was at full.
So, I told them that I needed to schedual an appointment to get a loaner, and leave it with them because *something* is not right. These people have me thinking that I don't know how to check a dipstick.
I bring it in to the dealership today, let the car cool down for about an hour and a half. Giving them instructions NOT TO START THE CAR. Told the service tech that I wanted to check a different G35 coupe first to compare with my car. I wanted to know what their definition of "full" looks like. Random G35 number 1: Oil level clearly visible. My G35: No oil on the dipstick. My car had about 2 quarts of oil left.. after an oil change 2500 miles ago (mobil 1 synthetic). The service rep was "shocked".
Anyway, I really really really hope that my car will work it self out like your G Andy..

ghost30, I wish you the best of luck with regard to your G's oil consumption. The dealer should have your G on an engine oil consumption test. They should be monitoring your oil consumtion every 1000 to 1500 miles.
I trust they figure it out and resolve any and all issues related to your G's oil consumption.
Keep us posted.

for those with oil consumption problems... do you guys downshift... a little or a lot???
When you engine brake the cylinders are in vacuum with the throttle closed and crank case vapours can get into the cylinders. IE no trace of sludge and the oil disappears without a trace.

Yeah im at 1,700 total miles. I do downshift more then I brake lol...but no real dramatic downshifting to like 5k rpm. The oil change definately helped alot...still makes a slight ticking noise but I've heard that on my S2000 and my old FX45 - could be the injectors

sorry to see some guys having this problem and good to see other's (Cru) had their issues fixed. I changed my own oil about 2-3x (until new infiniti dealer started charging $40 for synthetic oil change!!) and on my 3rd oil change around 10k miles I noticed the oil that came out from the oil pan and old filter was about 2 quarts low. This REAALY had me worried. However, there was some neglect on my part as I had driven ~1k over the mark which I know is stupid...as the oil really loses any real purpose...yes yes i know. However, since that time I have been on the dot when it comes to oil changes and still worry about oil consumption being an issue. However, my last 2 oil changes were done timely at the dealership therefore I cannot see/tell what the oil levels removed are/were. Would you guys think the dealership would inform me in the event there WAS an oil consuption issue?? Or would they purposely NOT tell me until my warranty expired??
I do know oil consumption can be a problem for people who just start up their cars on cold days and drive off revving the engine. Since the oil has not worked its way completely into the motor, causing oil to go past the rings/seals in the motor and out through your exhaust. These types of threads make me nervous...and I hope I dont lose sleep like Cru...
