My G35 vs. Evo vs. '02 M3 SMG
I hardly ever race but it was late at night, on a 2-3 lane street with no traffic at all.
Went out last nite to hang out with my cuz, and on the way back, me, my cuz with his Evo, and another friend with his '02 M3 SMG, lined up at the red light, and punched it. I was suprised to stay with them all the way thru 3rd gear. I slowed down after 3rd gear and let them go at it. And then on another empty road from like 40-50mph in 3rd punched it with my cuzn's evo, and pulled evenly..
I know both of the cars are a second faster then mine, but I was amazed and very suprised, especially since they race all the time and everyone they can. I give mad props to the G, and considering human error I am confident we can stand up to anyone now. That's it.

And to add to the original, I really had a nice launch, after reading this forum I kept my rpms at about 2.5-3.5 I don't remember exactly, but I hardly had any slip. Which gave me a head start I think. Either way it was fun. Can't wait to go to the racetrack, to race my friend's modded 1.8T Jetta, who keeps talking lots of trash.

50-60mph you should drop to 2nd gear quick and shift up. that little push helps. can't believe you kept up with the 02 m3 and evo. specially the smg m3. those are suppose to be faster than the 6speed too. i guess they really had a bad start....still doesn't make sense to me.
anyways...good job

no way in hell SMG would be faster than a manual with a "clutch"

Nice runs...from a roll the stock EVO could be a close race...a $50 boost controller later it's a much tougher race.
The SMG has a clutch like the 6 speed manual, the exception is that a computer hydraulically actuates the clutch fork rather than your foot. It's a lazy man's manual
...damn jerky at low speeds, but shifts as fast as I can speed shift (no lift) a car at wide-open-throttle.

Actually SMG is faster than any manual shifting. SMG is used in formula 1, rally and other professional races. I personally prefer a manual with a clutch, but it is cool. He was telling me after how he had a terrible launch, and how there are buttons for the rpms to stay where he wants, and have the m3 just launch perfectly, but didn't have time to play with it.
We all knew both of them are faster than the G, but I surely gained big points.

SMG and all of those manual gearbox/automatic transmissions are faster than their manual counterparts. The human hand and foot is no match for a machine shifting automatically. Standard automatic transmissions are slowed down slightly against their manual counterparts because of the torque converters. Like someone already mentioned, they have clutches and all, not torque converters, which give them the edge. With these transmissions finally starting to gain popularity, hopefully these can become the future of transmissions.
By the way, good to hear. M3s and EVOs are very, very fast cars. I've beaten an M3 off the line, but I was in the E55 AMG, so it was no suprise, but he put up a good fight, but he was a 6-speed, so human error could have come into play. With the SMG, just slam the pedal and you've got 150% perfect shifts every time.
