So I just got off the phone with the dealer..

I want to get my oil changed, and I asked if they use synthetic oil. And he replied that they did not. Which sucks... because I want to use mobil 1. Anyone's dealer use synthetic ??

I didn't read the manual, but I'm guessing its 10w30, correct?

Some will do synthetic, but who knows what kind they use. Your best bet is to buy it and take it with the car, or just change the oil yourself... It's easier than most imports.

Why not just do it yourself? Cheaper, better, faster.. What's not to like?

I already made an appointment for Thursday, so I think I'll let them change it. I'll run that oil until Saturday, then I'll change it to synthetic myself. That should clean it out pretty well.

No use in me bringing them synthetic, if I'm still paying for the other oil.

How many miles do you have on the car?

Many do not recommend changing to synth until 10K on the clock.(break in)

You dont pay for the other oil when u bring your own oil....thats the whole point. Just the labor and environmental fee etc.

Crack open the manual and go to section 8. It has a section on changing the oil, just follow the procedures there. Make sure you have a filter wrench that fits and some metric socket wrenches, I think 10mm and 12mm is what you need. You also need a pan to drain the oil into that can hold more than 5 quarts, and make sure you have something like an orange juice jug to put the oil in afterwords (with a funnel, yeah?) to take it for recycling.

I have 13k miles now.

Well the service guy said I could bring my own in, but I'd rather have them change it. I dont think they drop the price if I brought my own oil.

You will save some money by buying a 5 quart container of Mobil One at Wal-Mart and bringing it to the dealer. The dealer won't charge you for the oil if you bring your own.

I'd consider changing my own oil, but its really not that much more expensive to just bring it to a place these days.

I thought Infiniti reccomends against synthetic oil?

I'm nearing 10,000 miles, so for my 11,250 I was considering synthetic, but I'm not sure. I'll have to read up on some discussions.
