My First and Last Meguiar’s Experience.
My First and Last Meguiar’s Experience.
My First and Last Meguiar’s Experience.
Okay so I’m home for a couple days visiting my parents and I get bored the other night and decide to go outside and give my G a good wash, dry, and wax. My dad is a fairly big car guy so I assume he’s got everything I will need, etc. I thought he kept everything he had in one place in the garage. (this will be important later).
So anyway I proceed to handwash my G using Meguiar’s car wash, 1 oz to a gallon of water or some ratio that effect. I am washing it using one of those really soft terry-cloth towel/mits , I go over the body, front, back, undercarriage, etc. Once I’m finished up, I dry the car using a couple of terry cloth towels.
Its getting late (8:30ish) and I think I have enough time to get a coat of wax on before it gets too dark so I go into the garage and the only wax I can find is Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax. I was hesitant at first but submitted to using it knowing that my dad was using it on his two coupes. I read the directions since I was unfamiliar with the wax and start applying the wax using the supplied foam pad. The car is completely dry when I apply the wax, its about 84 F, and ~85% humidity. I notice the wax is a little goey for my preference but I keep going until the entire car has a nice even coat. I let it dry and then work on buffing it out. This is where **** hits the fan.
I have never experienced a wax so horrific to pull off a car after it has dried. The texture is similar to cured plaster on my car. It takes me almost two hours of painful scrubbing with just a terry cloth towel to get it off. By the end of the process my shoulder is dead and the removal process has left my Coupe with two noticeable scratches to the clear coat on the hood. About 12 inches in length and in a semi-circular shape.
I later find out that my dad has a can of zymol in the refrigerator downstairs that he uses on his cars. *g’ dammit*
At this point its almost 11, I’m furious with the product
and I decide I’m going to write the kind people at Meguiar’s to let them know of my experience. The result of the email is a phone call the next day from one of their associates with whom I replay the entire situation with and let him know of my disappointment with the product.
He is very understanding about the situation and agrees to send me their clear-coat repair product, some new microfiber towels, and a can of their gold class liquid wax. I let him know that I was glad he called and that I hope the repair stuff works on the clear coat.
CF: I used a Meguiar’s wax thinking it was at least a decent product, it destroys parts of my clear coat and my arm, and the company sends me a lineup of products after I complain.

You should really work on one section of the car at a time. Atleast that is what I do. It may take longer but atleast the wax is not to the point where you have to put some muscle into taking it off.
If I read your post correctly
You did the whole car at once. There's your mistake. I'd be willing to bet the directions tell you to do a small section at a time to avoid the circumstances you found yourself in.
Mother's Carnuba will do the same thing if you try to do the whole car at once. It's WAX dude, if you let it sit, it gets hard. You have to get it on and off in a short period of time to have an easy go of it. (At least that's been my experience)
I know some waxes are more tolerant than others, but I've never seen one that advocates waxing the entire car at one time, then buffing. Everything I've ever used recommends doing small sections at a time, that's what I do, and I've never had a problem.
I think if you had done as stated above this would not have been the case.
Sorry you had so much trouble and damaged your G. Which MG's was it? I've used their products in the past and had no issues other than it didn't offer the durability I was looking for.

How old was the cleaner wax? How thick did you put it on? 84 degrees is kinda hot to be waxing. Was the car in the sun when you applied the wax? Was the surface you put the wax on cool to the touch?
Too many unknowns here for you to blame the product.
I use Meguairs products almost exclusively and have never had any problems. Also, you were treated to ~$50 of product for your inconvenience.

Ps. I was waxing at 8:30pm in the shade. Not thick. Surface was as cool as black gets in 84 degrees.
Also, how did you scratch the clear coat while removing wax? I find that hard to believe. Are you certain the scratches were not there befroehand?
In the future, if you run into problems removing the wax, you can try to "mist" the area in question with a quick detailer type spray. This will ease the removal process.

I am 100% sure the scratches were a direct result of the removal process and were not there before. I agree that I should have worked section by section and I guess I can learn from this.
I dont think it was the product as much as the application instructions. It did not say to work section by section.

I used the new Mequiars stuff (NXT): put it on my wifes entire Sequioa, then took it off with absolutely no problems at all (using an old T-shirt). Easy on, easy off, great feel, great shine -- I would definitely recomend it to anyone.

I now stick to their car wash, quick detailer, with those towels he is sending you (they are great towels), and the liquid wax he is sending you. All great products. Just STAY AWAY from their spray wax. That is the only horrible product i have found from them so far! Sorry you had to experience this like I did. Luckily I found out after doing just a small section of the car.

I use it and have no problems...I think your integras clear coat was already gone
And for the original thread starter...I think that you used really old stuff stored in a bad temprature for a while...which then results in lost texture and wax qualities and just become a goop instead.

Once when I was waxing my camper (it's like waxing the side of your house...) I let the wax stay on too long. I thought I applied a reasonable amount, but removal took longer than I thought and I was facing the same thing you just went through - the wax was kicking my a$s.
I got a microfiber, soaked it and then wrang (wrung? rang?), screw it, I squeezed the water out of it, and wiped down the surface that was giving me trouble. As soon as I wiped it down I hit it with the microfiber I was buffing with and the wax lifted right off. All it needed was a little moisture. Now when I'm waxing I keep a bottle of quick-detailer close so if the wax gives me any trouble I can take care of it easily.
....that's kinda odd, I just used the paint cleaner a week ago, it was easy to take off. I actually did it twice to make sure the paint was clean and sparkly. I did use an orbital though, but I did the whole car at one time each time. I thought the product works really really really well. Maybe you just put a little too much on?
I too used some meguiars cleaner wax last night to do a small area. I noticed swirls under my garage flourescent lights. Then I used a polish and carnuba wax, no swirls from that combination. I think my cleaner wax was old too.
