Got rear ended...Anyone have an extra Rear Bumper?

I dont even have my license plate yet... Anyone with a stock Diamond Graphite Rear Bumper for sale in So Cal? Please let me know.

Also anyone know how much it would be a new painted bumper if I was to go thru insurance?

Buddy if you got rear ended, why aren't you taking everything from the other person's insurance who hit ya. You can get the money and put an aftermarket if you like as well.

Not big on modding, just want a good old stock bumper. I'd rather have a stock bumper with factory paint so it matches perfectly.

I thought I'd be nice and not force the person who hit me to go thru insurance if I gave them a quote and let them decide, which I'm about to go get.

Anyways I just thought it's the right thing to do...maybe I am wrong?

take it to a good body shop under neath the bumper cover there is a reinforcement made ot of metal, and a absorber, when you got hit, they might have bent or shifted, dont assume its only your bumper that needs replacing.

Thats a bad way of thinking about it. If it were me, I'd be pissed if I got rearended, and would want them to either pay for it, of go through their insurance. I have absolutely NO sympathy for people who pay no attention to driving, and rearending someone is a prime example of that.

At the bare minimum, ask them to either pay for it out of their pocket or involve insurance.

Well I got an estimate, $823 for the bumper alone although at the shop he pointed out the driver's side exhaust tip was lower than the passenger side, so I am afraid the exhaust was bent. So he said it'd be safe to say $2K in fixes. I guess I will have to go through insurance.

I wouldn't be too worried.

First off, I don't know how much lower the exhaust tip, but one thing I did notice about all coupes is that one does hang down slightly lower than the other. But only slightly. If your exhaust IS bent, that is a good opportunity to go for some nice aftermarket exhaust

And second, you shouldn't have to pay a dime. Its all their insurance. Also, just some advice: push for a rental car and demand something atleast somewhat near the status of the G35, so they dont stick you with a Ford escort or something..

The exhaust should be able to be bent back, provided it's not been disfigured.
The bumper can be painted but make sure there are no holes, otherwise replace it.

I hope you know the person you're doing the "Good Samaritan" for.......I've done that b4 and ended up eating the bill. I swore I'd never do it again.

slip just got rear ended - his bumper was ruined and exhaust as well.
insurance gave him 350 i think for the bumper and 300 for the exhaust.
i see every accident (ive had two accidents where i have been at a complete stop and been hit) as an opportunity to replace parts with aftermarket.
if you're not interested in aftermarket, then thats fine, everyone has their taste..but just telling you how much (roughly) you'd be getting for each part.

Thanks guys for the advice. It helps a great deal to get friendly advice after something like this happens.
I didn't know the person until she hit me. She seemed honest so I was trying to go the cheaper route to see if I could save her some money. The bumper has some definite "waves" and holes from her front plate post accident so I think a new bumper is necessary. As for the exhaust it never looked uneven until today. But we'll see if I'm crazy or not. The body should be able to tell me later.

Hate to turn this into a "good body shop thread" but I wouldn't mind some rec's to place with good paint.

Thanks again!

If you want to be nice, don't involve insurance, but contact the woman that hit you and offer for her to pay out of pocket. If the damages are under the price of her deductable, it would be in her best interest to pay out of pocket for you, since this way she saves money and her rates wont go up. (expecially if her deductable is $1,000)

If the damages are going to be well over her deductable, then it would probably be best to involve insurance.. but offering to pay this much money out of your own pocket is just too nice, and unless the woman was attractive and made up for it in different ways, I wouldn't even think of going that route (just kidding)

Oh, and if the exhaust really is damaged, jump on that opporunity to replace it with aftermarket exhaust. You'd actually be suprised how expensive OEM parts can be to order new.

Thats nice of you to do this, just hope you got his all his info: home address, insurance, etc. When I was trading in the acura, the same day a person hit me. All I said was if the dealer sees this scratch and ask me to fix it, its coming out of your pocket. If not, consider it your good luck.
